Mangaluru: Huge demand for pigs in coastal region, cost of pork meat up by Rs 100 a kilo

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jan 26: The price of pork meat, which shot up recently by Rs 100, has not come down. From Rs 250 a kilo its price has touched Rs 350 per kilo. Also, big sized pigs are not available with the pig farming. In fact, pig farm owners are facing acute shortage of pigs.

Karavali pig farmers producer company limited which was established recently for the progress and development of pig farmers is also not getting pigs in sufficient numbers. Now, the owners of the company are trying to find alternative sources to cater to the demand of its customers. The company has 488 members.

It was confirmed that swine flu had affected some parts of Dakshina Kannada district before the disease was officially found in a private farm of Padu Perara village. There is information that some swineherds did sell off the affected pigs in the market.

African Swine flu is an easily contagious disease that spreads through viruses. The death rate from the viruses is 100%. In the wake of rising incidences of this disease most of the swineherds have reduced the number of pigs that they are rearing as per the advice of the veterinary doctors.

Due to the non-availability of the big pigs the demand for piglets is on the rise. A two-month old piglet is being sold for Rs 6,000 now. Earlier, the price for the same piglet ranged between Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.

ICCOA coordinator Sathish says that pig farmers are not taking risks due to the scare of Swine flu and as piglets are remuneratively priced.

Dr Vasant Shetty, regional research officer, Mangaluru veterinary disease centre, said, “Right now there is no scare of African Swine flu in Dakshina Kannada district. However, we have informed the pig farmers not to take risks by rearing a large number of pigs. Usually Swine flu spreads easily and quickly during transportation. That is why the district administration has prohibited transportation of pigs from other districts and states."

If you want to eat Pork..., refer New Testament and you can defend it very well (because, you want to eat it, at any cost, UNTIL YOUR DOCTOR INSTRUCTS YOU, NOT TO EAT)! If you don't want to eat or if you believe, 'Whole Bible is the word of God (Old and New Testament)' then you understand the Truth & accept the Truth! If Old Testament is only for the reference (as someone commented), First of all, Catholic Church must remove the learning (byhearting) 10 commandments during the Catechism and should teach only 2 Commandments, as Lord Jesus taught. In the New Testament Jesus never told, you can eat Pork and being a Jew, neither Jesus nor his mother, Mother Mary ate Pork in their whole life! Bottomline is; Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Romans 14:2-3 , One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him.

QUOTE: Matthew 15:17 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled UNQUOTE. TILL ALL BE FULFILLED. Who will fulfill the laws of God?! Humans have failed miserably and were trying their best yet failed miserably. Which human can be holy to stand before God. None. So Lord Jesus came down to fulfill the laws of God and sacrificed himself as an atonement to take us into His Kingdom. Now we have a Passport and a Visa, stamped in the blood of Jesus Christ. Be ready and see that your passports and visas are not expired prior to your entry into the Kingdom of heaven. Praise God and His name be glorified. Thank you Lord for providing us an opportunity to be with you, Amen.

@Joseph Barrows, Mangalore / Gangolli, I quote yours: In the New Testament Jesus never told, you can eat Pork and being a Jew, neither Jesus nor his mother, Mother Mary ate Pork in their whole life Unquote. In the New Testament Jesus didn't said to eat pork nor don't eat the pork. However Jesus said about what the food will do to us Veg or Non-Veg of any kind will go into ones stomach and will go out. So there is no obstacles to anybody to eat anything. The Doctor will never say you to eat that or eat this. Doctor will tell you whenever you get a disease then he will tell eat that and eat this. The New Testament speaks very little to very less about the food taken by Jesus or His mother Mary. So we cannot speak about the food whichever they have taken or not taken.

Deuteronomy 12:23 But be sure you do not eat the blood, because the blood is the life, and you must not eat the life with the meat. you can eat anything you want with one condition . Due to severe climate change and other biological factors, a "very severe food and water shortage" has been predicted in the offing; IMO, I surmise most meats, high end pulses etc will not be affordable to the common man due to high pricing; please check out for yourself the increase in basic grains and pulses rates and also other items used by the common man, you will be shocked ; eateries are already bearing a brunt of it😳! Please note this is a very personal opinion based on my research; kindly do your own research and do not believe in anybody's opinion blindly! BTW, tanker water supply businesses will start flourishing from here on till the next rainfall season!

Many tricksters around Mangalore cheat gullible and old people with easy NRI funds, and the they dupe them by charging high rates by claiming they are supplying wild boar meat; when in fact it's the meat of a small sized pig species that is found in the Western Ghat region around Mudigerre side areas and closely resembles wild boar meat! When I challenged the supplier regarding his claims of wild boars having gone very scarce and where did he get such large quantity especially during Christmas weekend, he just changed the topic and ran away with the money 💰; no doubt NRI money is being squeezed by local crooks From the old and gullible NRIsof MangaNaUru wherever possible!!

Halal is not at all required. Animals killed by Jews and Christians is a lawful meat to Muslims. As per your Quote Jesus and his disciples never ate pork. Check the old testament Unquote. Camels meat is forbidden to consume in the Old Testament. Muhammad made it lawful to Muslims. Almost all Muslims are eating Camels meat. For your good information Jesus said: Matthew 15:16-18 "And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? Do you not yet understand? that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man." You are clueless and without knowledge. Your Quran says: then ask those who have been reading the Scripture before you. The truth has certainly come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters – Qur’an Surah 10:94. Avoid being lethargic. This is what I understood the Bible to say. Matthew 15:17–19 "Everything you eat goes into the sewer after passing through the stomach. But what defiles you are the words you speak, which originate from the heart. Since bad thoughts, adultery, murder, and all forms of sexual immorality originate from the heart, so do theft, lying, and slander.

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ (Colossians 2:16-17) Ignatius of Antioch Chapter 9. Let us live with Christ If, therefore, those who were brought up in the ancient order of things have come to the possession of a new hope, no longer observing the Sabbath, but living in the observance of the Lord’s Day, on which also our life has sprung up again by Him and by His death — whom some deny, by which mystery we have obtained faith, and therefore endure, that we may be found the disciples of Jesus Christ, our only Master — how shall we be able to live apart from Him, whose disciples the prophets themselves in the Spirit did wait for Him as their Teacher? And therefore He whom they rightly waited for, having come, raised them from the dead. Matthew 27:52 (Epistle to the Magnesians [A.D. 110]) 21To those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law (1 Corinthians 9:21) We are under the Law of Christ.

Government and social organizations must make public aware of the negative effects of pork consumption on human health. Pig is not a healthy meat option. It can carry dangerous viruses and even if it is cooked , pig fat is bad for health. I remember when I was a kid ,only some communities used to consume pig meat.

It's important to rely on credible sources for information. While pork, like any meat, can carry bacteria, proper cooking kills harmful pathogens. Always follow food safety guidelines to minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses. The healthiness of pork fat compared to beef and goat fat depends on factors like the cut, cooking methods, and individual health considerations. Pork fat can be a good source of monounsaturated fats, but moderation and balance in dietary choices are key for overall health. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, pork is the most widely eaten meat in the world (36%) followed by poultry (33%), beef (24%), and goats/sheep (5%).

One of the important considerations the world over is reducing methane emission(greenhouse gas) form livestock. Cattle and goat are ruminating animals and release lot of methane while farting. In order to limit this methane emission from ruminating animals western countries have taken steps including developing improved bovine breeds that will contribute to methane reductions. Also on the agenda is culling of cattle to reduce their numbers thereby meeting their methane commitments. To counteract the shortage of meat they are now promoting pork, which is non-ruminating aiding in methane reduction and of course poultry.

There is difference, Varaha is wild boar. The domestic pig is variously considered a subspecies of wild boar, or a separate but closely related species. Basically humans bred them selectively over thousands of years to reduce the traits that make wild boar a more difficult and dangerous animal to manage in captivity, and increase the traits that make them an efficient converter of unwanted food into meat. So for instance domestic pigs tend to have a longer body with more meat on the hindquarters (the bit we most want to eat) instead of being a more compact animal with a ton of muscle around the neck and shoulders (which helps make the business end of a wild boar so dangerous.) Although specific traits of domestic pigs vary by breed.
