Mangaluru: 2.8 cr women in coastal dists avail free bus travel benefit under Shakti scheme

Mangaluru, Jan 25: More than 2.8 crore women of the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have availed themselves of the benefit of the Shakti scheme introduced by the state government seven months ago.

Mangaluru and Puttur KSRTC divisions have spent Rs 91.15 crore for free bus travel of the beneficiaries. A steady increase has been noticed in the number of women passengers availing themselves of this facility since the scheme was introduced in June 2023.

The total number of women passengers who have availed themselves of this facility so far is 2,80,10,995. The number of beneficiaries for June was 20,87,658, July 36,72,399, August 39,47,379, September 37,49,167, October 38,81,817, November 38,64,993, December 41,13,321 and for January 2024 26,94,261.

    Wow Siddu has solved the mobility issue. I am sure all those availing Shakthi scheme must be seated throughout their journey and there is no standing because the KSRTC must have inducted many buses beyond that the demand needs. This mode of solving transport solution must be exported to every corner of the world and not just India. If it succeeds, please of please, nominate Siddu for Nobel prize for novel idea on mobility. We will drink a spoon of beer after the award ceremony and celebrate it, because the cause is Nobel.

    Tgis freebies ll impact only middleclass ppl, free 200 units of electricity whos average is 200 units n less decided in just 3 months especially those tgree months when a common man comes n tries to get good sleep using AC. Now per unut ge has to oay 7rs even if he is sused 100 units less 330 wat kinda of justice to middle class, he oays taxes n he only does notbget any benefits
