Mangaluru, Jan 23: A 50-year-old man, who should have been taking responsibility of his family like others, is fighting for his life instead. Clifford Vincent Fernandes, a resident of Padil, Mangaluru here, had many dreams for his family. He was determined to make his dreams a reality through hard work. Though he moved to Mumbai with the intention of searching for a suitable job at the age of 19, unfortunately, luck was not in his favour. At the age of 20, he started feeling numbness in his legs. He was advised to go for spinal cord operation. After treatment for six-long months in the hospital, he was advised to take rest for a year. Unfortunately after the operation and year-long bed rest, Clifford was not able to walk and has remained bedridden since then.

Meanwhile, he got a surgical infection and was forced to be hospitalised again for two-and-half months. As he spent a major part of his life on the bed, his family suffered a huge financial burden. His elder sister has been taking care of him for the last 31 years. He is currently staying in a rented house near Padil in Mangaluru.

In an effort to save Clifford’s life, his sister sacrificed her own family life and has been staying with him as a caretaker. People close to his family have already sold their personal belongings and assets to cover the treatment expenses for over a long period of time. Now, Clifford is reaching out to the community for financial support, hoping to continue his medicines, other daily expenses, rent and restore his quality of life.

Those who wish to help Clifford, can send their contribution to the following bank details:
