Beltangady, Nov 6: Heavy rains accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed the taluk for around one and half hour on Sunday and caused damage in some places.

The main electricity line tower fell on a car and two-wheeler near Kiriyadi Cross on Ujire-Belalu road late night on Sunday.

A Mescom staff who noticed the electricity tower leaning to one side, informed the matter to higher officials. As the concerned arrived on the spot and were about to inspect the tower, it fell on the vehicles. Those on the spot escaped with minor injuries.

Electricity supply to Dharmasthala is stalled due to the collapse of tower. Huge amount of water flowed on the road as the underground drainage work trench overflowed near church bend of Beltangady Halekote.

A mini canteen and a petty shop on one side of the road also got damaged as the water gushed into them. Walls of the house and electricity connection of Sheikh Imam Saheb, a resident of first ward of Sunnadakere Pilichandi Kallu under Kuvettu gram panchayat limits were damaged due to lightning strike.

lucky that the tower fall did not kill anyone..falling of installations is common in third world countries...no question of this happening in developed countries and even gulf nations...underground cabling will just be a dream in this country except some metro posh areas....our leaders should think of improving infrastructure on ground level rather than holding monkey baath and wasting precious time and money

No words to explain this catastrophy after an hour of rain 🌧️; the people who designed and erected this "fragile tower" should be made accountable and suspended with immediate effect!

Just with heavy rains of an hour, main electricity tower 🗼 collapses down shows the quality of engineering design and shoddy workmanship of the company which erected it; this is one of the worst power utility companies....in the third world! God save the users from similar disasters 😔🙏!
