After 4-month Sharjah ordeal, actress Chrisann Pereira back home to teary welcome

Mumbai, Aug 3 (IANS): Actress Chrisann Pereira, who was embroiled in a fake drug case in Sharjah, returned home early Thursday morning to a tearful welcome after four months, her family said here.

As Chrisann landed in Mumbai, she was greeted with a loving bear-hug by her brother Kevin Pereira and other relatives, as she cried inconsolably at the reunion after a long separation.

On April 1, she had gone to Sharjah for some professional assignments but unwittingly became a drug mule and was caught by the Sharjah authorities in the fake narcotics case.

Consequently, Chrisann spent around three weeks in jail, but with the prompt help from Mumbai Police, she was eventually acquitted of all the charges against her.

Finally, after overcoming more delays and legal hurdles, she was able to catch a flight for a ‘ghar-wapasi’ to her overjoyed mother Premila, father Mark, Kevin and other family members and friends, ending the nightmarish ordeal in a foreign land.

Bollywood and acting are really dirty professions which women should keep out of.....there are a few success stories and a lot of shameful failures which never come into the main stream.

Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.... We all must learn some basic lesson from this episode... Why someone will go to the extent of planting drugs in the trophy? What level of hatred would have developed in their minds? behavior goes a long way in determining safety of living... I am not saying wrong for wrong is right... But a bit more humility would have avoided this fiasco...

Hats off to Sharjah Police.. they listen to your story, they help you in appointing a lawyer, the lawyer helps you to speak with Embassy people. After thorough investigation and urine sample/blood report of Chrisann, it was confirmed that she never took drugs or any illegal substance in her life. Hence she was saved, and after Indian police investigating the remaining story and getting hold of culprits in India, she was relieved. anyways welcome back!! :)

Happy to hear the good news finally for the crime not committed by you. In fact, you should consider yourself lucky to be released in Sharjah, as for ordinary people like me would have spent entire life in jail hoping release...

Consider the scenario of imposing severe punishments for similar offenses in India. In such cases, we might witness protests with burnt buses, thrown bottles, and even train destruction, along with vocal outcries about human rights and values. Surprisingly, we remain silent and even admire such incidents occurring in countries with inhumane and draconian laws under the guise of religion. My intention is not to imply that the guilty should escape punishment, but rather to emphasize the need for humane considerations when dealing with non-grave offenses like theft, drug-related crimes, etc. Serious offenses, such as rape and murder, should undoubtedly be treated with the utmost seriousness.

Because of the draconian law, crime rate is so low there. Criminal should face the punishment at any cost and innocents shouldnt be framed is the core of so called draconian law. Not that kind of law where like Mr kujuma says 'Law will take its own golf course'.
