Mangaluru: Vehicular overpass worth Rs 40 crore to come up near KPT

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 25: The NHAI has made comprehensive plans to overcome traffic issues at main junctions. As a first phase preparations are on for vehicular overpass near KPT.

Trinity Group, builders from Hubballi have bagged the contract. The cost is Rs 40 crore. An appeal has been sent to union minister in this regard from the district administration.

Traffic congestion on the 1.6 km-stretch from Nanthoor Junction to KPT is a daily affair. All vehicles arriving to the city and going to airport should go via this junction. The upcoming vehicular overpass will be built on both sides of the road and pedestrian service road too.

In order to implement the project, 602 trees will be cut. This is identified by New Mangaluru Port Road Company Limited. Around 370 trees can be shifted. However, 232 trees have to be felled as there is no other option. Public objection in this regard was taken in the meeting that was held earlier in the month at the office of deputy conservator of forest, Mangaluru zone.

Dr Bharat Shetty, MLA north legislative council constituency, said, “Traffic at the KPT junction is a daily affair. I had instructed the NHAI for an overpass at the spot. Hence, a modern overpass at a cost of Rs 40 crore will be built.”

Aniruddha, project director of NHAI said, “Approval is given to build a vehicular overpass near KPT at a cost of Rs 40 crore. Once the technical issues are cleared by the local administration, work on the overpass will be started.”

Why build at KPT when Nantoor junction is completely jammed with vehicles. During busy hours vehicles jam until Padua college and bikarnakatte. Makes no sense, when you have to solve traffic problem where people face the most and doing at a place where currently not required.

If you see the plans/drawings you will realise that the NHAI is taking mangalorean's for a ride. This is a underpass starting from Planet SKS building upto Padua high school with a ground level crossing (Overpass) from circuit house to a little after KPT. If they excavate this area to build a underpass this will be dangerous during rainy season and for four months in a year it will be unusable. We have experienced NHAI expertise at kottar chowky, pumpwell, padil during the rains. This project is not an alternative to ease traffic. Nowhere in karnataka highways cut through cities. BYpasses are the only long term solutions. They should seriously pursue the bypass road projects which were sanctioned by Mr.Gadkari in 2018 and where a lot of money has been spent already for upgrading them as highways

Wow that is great news. Another ten years plus - like another Pump well Flyover project in the offing for our smart city - Mangalore. So, dear fellow citizens let us be prepared for traffic congestion, un-ending dust and building material on the roads and road sides. But, by the time this " Overpass " is built we will be " passing over " or walking with walking sticks - may be. Good luck to all the concerned for a better tomorrow. Please ensure you utilize at least 70% of the funds to the project & not otherwise.

These BJP members don't know the meaning of overpass and Flyover. You don't worry , nothing will come up for another 20 years, and you can see only the trees which have been cut. That's all.

Even if the flyover is not completed by 2033, i am sure the elected representatives of mangalore city will be BJP only, that is, kateel, shetty and vedavyas. This is how the highly educated people from mangalore vote. I request them to take full freedom to take their own sweet time to complete the flyover, bcoz they wont be held accountable.

Once KPT overpass is ready , No right turn required into Padua from nanthoor. If people want to go towards the airport they can pass through KPT
