Mumbai, Jul 17: Sharadha Apartment, a three storey residential complex built 52 years ago and which was under renovation collapsed on Saturday July 16 night, causing damage to cars and two-wheelers, but luckily, there were no casualties.

Sharada Complex situated near Sahar Road, Chakala was occupied by a good number of Mangaloreans, specially three guest apartments belonging to people from Udupi.

The guest apartments are offered by seniors from the Catholic community of South Canara to youngsters who come to Mumbai in search of jobs. Those who do not have place to stay are welcomed in the residential guest apartments for a nominal rent.

Many old guest apartments had been rennovated or shifted. The Fathima Welfare Association Udayar, The Secret Heart Association Udyavar and Kundapur Catholic Association Kundapur guest apartments were situated in this building.

Speaking to Daijiworld.com in Mumbai, Rolwin D'Souza and Preethesh D'Costa, office-bearers of these associations informed there have been no injuries, but the apartments have partially collapsed and are not suitable for stay.

Tis is my friends reply after contacting him...
Building's front side was collapsed luckily no one is injured and back side is still safe but the BMC had given notice to leave the room, right now no one is living in the building. But 10 families are staying on back side chawl and awaiting for builder to decide room rent or possession of the room on the other side for time being and for further agreement or we will force to BMC to break the building. As, now no one is living in the building and are staying by the chawl side with protection of 20/30 feet metal sheet if we do not get any response from the builder.

Thank God, all the residents are safe. I’ve spent 3 years of quality time at Kundapur Catholic Association (CCA), where I learnt the different dimensions of life. It was amazing to stay with 40-50 members from different parts of Kundapur under one roof.
Hope the current members get the alternate shelter at the earliest.

It is very sad that the building collapsed but at least there are no causalities. I used to stay in this building under Sacred Heart Association, Udyavar around 15 years ago and there was need for the repair of this building that time and doing some minor repairs and of course they made some revovation also. Any way this uilding giving shelter to many so many peiople who are in need to stay in the cospmopolitan who cannot afford a building of their own. Let us hope for the best if the building again renovated soon I hope authorities will take of this and again help to re-consturct the damaged bldg.

Very sad news.Thank God for nothing has happened to the residents. Before blaming the authorities or building owner my concern goes to the residents of the building.Specially this was a shelter for many of our brothers from Udupi/Kundapur locality who were working in diff parts of Mumbai and residing in this building in a very organized set ups like Sacred Heart Assn/Kundapur Assn & Fatima Assn for ages. Now their belongings are stuck inside the building.Top of that during this rainy season all of a sudden very difficult to find a alternative place with their limited means.I had the opportunity to stay in Sacred Heart Club for 3 yrs almost 15yrs back.I pray to God that this Club set to be re-organised in some other convenient place ASAP to help the needy.

I used to stay in the Sacred Heart club 11 years ago which was on the First floor of this building. During those days I had observed that almost all structural beams had dangerous cracks on them and almost everyday some cement plaster used to fall off from the ceiling . I hope the present members will be provided some alternate arrangements .
