Mumbai, Jul 17: Mumbai police may find themselves in troubled waters following the death of Faiz Usmani soon after he was questioned in connection with the July 13 Mumbai blasts.

Faiz Usmani, brother of Indian Mujahideen member Afzal Usmani who is in jail for his involvement in the Ahmedabad blasts, was taken for questioning by police and released a day later.

Usmani's parents allege that he was tortured by the police which ultimately led to his death. He died at Sion Hospital here.

Mumbai police denied the charges and said that Usmani was ill. They claimed to have admitted Usmani in the hospital themselves.

Police said that Usmani was quizzed for under an hour so there was no question of torture. Usmani was reportedly suffering from hypertension and had missed his medicines for the last three or four days. The postmortem report is awaited.
