New Delhi, Jul 4: Bollywood producer Shakeel Noorani's petition to annul Sanjay Dutt's bail in the 1993 Mumbai blast case was dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday July 4.

The Supreme Court, questioning Noorani's interest in the matter, said that the court should not be used to settle personal disputes in the name of a criminal case. Noorani has been embroiled in a financial dispute with Dutt, and had told the SC that Dutt was threatening him with the help of some underworld dons.

The bench comprising justice P Sathasivam and justice B S Chauhan dismisssed the plea, and asked Noorani to file an FIR. However, Noorani's lawyer Sanjay Hegde argued that an FIR was also lodged but it did not solve the issue.

Hegde further claimed that his client's life was in danger following threats from the underworld.

In 2006, a special TADA court had convicted Dutt on charges of possession of weapons in connection with the blast case, but the next year, he was granted bail.
