Mumbai, Jun 29: Cyber cell of the police will now monitor social networking websites to curb rave parties on instructions given by the Minister of State for Home R R Patil on Monday June 29, two days after the police busted a rave party in Raigad.

Patil, at a Congress party office pointed out that most rave party organizers make use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Orkut to coordinate with potential participants.

On Sunday June 26, the Mumbai police busted a rave party at a resort off the Mumbai-Pune expressway that was organized with the help of a social networking site.

According to police, the organisers had used the code word 'Shanti Yatra' to refer to the rave party.

The organizers and revellers have violated the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and strict action would be taken against them, Patil said.
