Mangaluru on its way to become ‘Smart City’, lacks public toilets

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 18: Public are having a tough time in the city as there are no toilets in public places. E-toilets near the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) office at Lalbagh and at Jeppinamogaru are not in usable condition due to no maintenance.

Social worker G K Bhat says, “It is really a pity that the administration, which spends crore of rupees on unnecessary projects under the name of Smart City project, is not concerned about the needs of public. Though many appeals are given to the MCC there is no response from people representatives and officials.”

There is a toilet near Ambedkar Circle in the heart of the city. However, it is locked since many years. There is no public toilet near bus stands of Kankanady and Pumpwell. People who arrive from rural places find it very difficult to attend to their physical needs.

Most of the outstation and rural passengers’ board buses at Ambedkar Circle. From 6 am to 10 pm, these bus stands are full of people. Though there is toilet here it is not in usable condition since three years. The toilet at Pumpwell bus station also is locked. The toilets built near Kadri grounds spending lac of rupees is also not opened for public use. The toilet at Valencia is emanating foul smell due to no maintenance.

Mayor Jayanand Anchan says, “It has come to my knowledge that the public is facing issue of toilets in the city. As there is maintenance issue, the toilets are locked. Very soon action will be taken in this regard.”

Smart City Smart Engineers Smart politicians and Smart citizens. No problem at all there is no footpaths so there is plenty of place to fit. From Maroli Mescom to Padil Junction there are 2 public Toilet facilities. But still the entire stretch has become a roadside urina destination. Every single day I yell at people showing them the public toilets. No use of anything Men enjoy to flash like it's fountain. A woman seems pissing on the road will she be spared for a minute?. Hope men keep their instruments inside. Please learn and apply in your daily life

Don't worry. People are smart. They will find a place... They have understood what is "smart city". Smart city means people in the city should be smart. Otherwise they will fall in open drainage. They know, no concrete road is permanent. It needs to go through digging process 3-4 times a year. They have learned to park their cars on smart city footpaths and those who don't have vehicles have learned to walk on the roads.
