Bantwal, Mar 7: An NIA team conducted raids on five houses in Nandavar taluk and detained four individuals for questioning. The interrogation continued until late at night on March 6, during which the team confiscated various items, including cash.

The NIA conducted the raid in connection with the financing of the accused who allegedly planted a bomb during Prime Minister Modi's function in Patna, Bihar. It is alleged that a Nandavar resident transferred money to multiple accounts, with the help of others.

Residents Mohammed Sinan, Iqbal, Sarfraz Nawaz, and Naufal were taken into custody and questioned in the Nandavar inspection bungalow until midnight on March 5th. It is unclear whether they were released or kept in NIA custody.

The NIA team confiscated two mobile phones, two DVRs, and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from the accused's homes, according to police sources.

In a previous incident, on September 8th, 2022, the NIA had raided the home of Riyaz Farangipete, an SDPI leader at Perlia near B C Road. Although they did not detain Riyaz, they seized mobile phones and party pamphlets.

There is also information available that Rafiq, who was arrested on Sunday night from Irde in Puttur, was subjected to intense interrogation by the NIA on suspicion of aiding the Patna bombing accused.

According to locals, the accused's financial situation is moderate, and a new house is under construction. The accused had worked overseas for several years. It is suspected that Rafiq was involved in a hawala network and known as a dry coconut dealer. It is alleged that others may have used his bank account to send money in exchange for commission.
