Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Nine including doctors, medical and dental students have been arrested on the charges of peddling ganja and consumption.

Five men and four women are arrested out of which one each are from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, two each hail from Kerala, Punjab and Delhi and one local. Among the nine arrested, there are students, doctors of medical and dental colleges. They were pursuing their under-graduation and post-graduation. Four women were pursuing MBBS and BDS final year. Among the five men, two are medical officers and three are students pursuing MBBS and BDS.

Earlier on January 8, an accused identified as Neil Kishorilal Ramji Shah (35) was arrested from Bunts Hostel. He is an overseas citizen of Indian origin. He had possessed ganja in his flat and was trying to sell it to locals and students.

Police seized 2 kilos of ganja worth Rs 50,000, two mobile phones, and Rs 7,000 cash all together worth Rs 78,000. He purchased ganja from Visakhapatnam.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, “Neil is a UK citizen and overseas citizen of India living in Mangaluru for the past 15 years. He was pursuing his studies in a dental college and in the past 15 years, he had not completed his education. After a detailed probe Neil, the other nine were arrested. Ganja was also seized from their possession. We have evidence of peddling and consumption.”

The nine accused were produced to the court. They were later sent to two-day police custody.

“After the cooker bomb blast incident, we have strictly imposed certain rules for paying guest accommodations. People have to be alert and inform the right authorities in case of any suspicion,” added the police commissioner.

Wherever, medical seats are sold for a price to rich spoiled brats for crores, who indulge in drugs, do you think they will gain any real knowledge and become worthy doctors? Capitation fee admissions should be totally banned and only meritorious students should be taken who have the passion; till such time, we cannot expect this menace to end, and these doctors with paper degrees are very dangerous to society!! Excessive money flow in students hands leads to all sorts of these vices!!

Yes .we will start growing Ganja instead of rice in rice fields .I think it is more money bringing business ?Sure medicine students start consuming this because they have either not learnt enough to pass ,or dont have brain to to do and brings money during studies .?Many come to medicine study only by paying lacs .same with go through too.So dont have much experience in practice.Hope they realise their mistake earlier and put efforts .Let ganja out and do learn the stuff .Dont ba shame to your hard earned money from parents.

Most of these students are from outside states from affluent families who gain admission by paying capitation fees of 25L+ for MBBS; money is not a problem and parents do not know what they are doing, studying or enjoying? Just think how they can study and assimilate knowledge in medicine to treat patients later on? They might be getting degrees by again paying money and influence! God save their patients!!

Mr. Rudolf & DR. Kusuma Kumari, you seem quite jobless and in need of validation in your life, hence commenting on everyone’s comment. Let’s break down some facts without bias. 1. There is no more capitation fee (under the table) since NEET & NEET-PG exams have taken over. Seats are based on merit & reservation system. The first fee is paid to the counselling body (government) who disburse the amount to the respective college, this is paid as demand drafts, so that’s completely white money. 2. Ganja, marijuana etc etc… are legal in some states of India under the supervision of the government for medicinal use. So technically consumption of Cannabis is inherently not a bad thing but the choice of consuming is it considered bad by society, while there is no statistical data showing that it develops any dependence like alcohol or crimes associated with its consumption, also like alcohol. 3. Consumption of only Cannabis has no relation on the outcome of how a person will perform in their career (If it’s consumed in moderation). A lot of students get hooked on to gateway drugs, now would you be the ideal judge of their character, future performance in life because you know everything & everyone & like judging others cause you were judged as a child & aren’t getting enough validation from others in life? Or are you just generally insensitive to maybe why this young adults resorted to these drugs, were they emotionally unstable, or were dealing with something in their life & found smoking cannabis as a way to get their head off of things? All in all tomorrow when any of you go to a doctor, you don’t know if they ever consumed drugs, or anything about them. I don’t know if Dr Kusuma paid for her degree or any other doctor for that matter. Same applies for all professions. Always looking to point fingers be it profession, religion or gender. Get a life & think rationally you who think yourselves as self righteous & all perfect people. Also, I won’t be responding.

Once car street drug lords, members and distributors names started to pop out investigations and arrests stopped in this area immediately. Strange !!! May be few networks have highly influential God fathers. Parents be watchful over your kids behaviour and their friends circle.

Day by day our economic is growing as compare to others some unknown factors wants to target mostly young generation people by pumping more of drugs into the nation. At initial stage they distribute freely drugs near institutions once they habitual by any means to buy will arrange money for there day to day needs. Most of the students are out of states and there parents unaware of actual facts. Some of groups even invite new students in the name of entertainment during get together and ask to try drugs for first time. It's not a serious issue in India but also in Gulf, Middle East, Latin America, Europe and all over.
