Mangaluru: Isolation ward set up at Wenlock hospital over Covid scare

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Dec 28: An isolation ward with 25 beds is made ready at the Wenlock hospital in the city in the wake of increasing Covid variant scare and also to segregate international passengers detected with Covid symptoms.

The state government has also taken out a separate guideline as the cases of Covid variant are on the rise in overseas countries. Around 2% of international passengers are tested for Covid at the international airport in the city. The samples are sent to the genomic sequencing laboratory. If Covid is confirmed, then such passengers will be treated in the isolation ward.

Meanwhile, a passenger, native of Mangaluru, who arrived from Saudi Arabia at Bengaluru airport, was tested positive for Covid. His throat swab has been sent to the genomic sequencing laboratory. As his symptoms are mild, he is kept at his home under watch. Saudi Arabia is not among the nations that are at high risk for Covid. However, during random checking, the case came to light.

In Dakshina Kannada district, one case of Covid was confirmed on Tuesday.
