Mangaluru: No arrests so far in jewellery shop, staff attack by right wingers

Mangaluru Dec 7: No arrests have been made so far in the moral policing case involving riot in a jewellery shop in Kankanady and assault on its staff member by a gang of right wingers, The victim belonging to a different community was assaulted in connection with his female colleague who was also warned prior to the attack by the girl's parents.

Disclosing this to the media persons on Wednesday, December 7, police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said, "Three cases have been filed with the Mangaluru East police station. The boy has complained of assault and rioting, mother of the girl has accused the boy of abusing her and threatening her of dire consequences and the jewellery shop has complained of trespass and rioting.

Theft case against takers of money from drunkard

Commenting on the case of a drunkard claiming to have found Rs 10 lac in cash, Shashi Kumar said, "On November 26, a person named Shivaraj who is doing petty works found money in a box near Pumpwell. There is no clarity on the exact amount he has found as against his claim with media sections of Rs 10 lac. He was saying that he got six bundles of cash in a box, Shivraj was accompanied by Tukaram. Shivraj also gave a few bundles of money to Tukaram. Shivraj and Tukaram used Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 respectively from the bundles to buy alcohol.

Shivraj also claims that after drinking he found a few bundles missing, We will verify the details as well. Tukaram has handed over Rs 2,99, 500 to Kankanady police station and along with Rs 49,500 retrieved from Shivraj, total money seized so far is Rs 3.9 lac. We have registered a case under 75 KP Act for unclaimed property. We will verify the CCTV footage as well. So far no one has approached us to claim the money. I urge the owner to come forward and claim the money and as per the procedure it will be handed over to the person concerned."

The commissioner has also appealed that as it is claimed that there was Rs 10 lac cash, if anyone has taken money from Shivraj, they hand it over to the police station. He has also assured that no case will be filed against them. CCTV footage will be checked and if anyone is found taking money from Shivraj, a theft case will be filed against them, he warned. No case has been filed against Tukaram or Shivraj as they are not considered as accused in this case, he added.

There is no trace of the owner of the money and no one has approached police station yet to claim it, commissioner said

Puroshottam not yet discharged

In the Cooker Bomb Blast case he said, "In the bomb blast, the treatment of Purushottam is going on and he has not been discharged yet. The case is handed over to NIA and they are following it up."
