Bantwal: Row over offertory boxes – Catholic Sabha calls for impartial action

Bantwal, Nov 24: There are several offertory boxes (hundis) on podiums relating to various religious deities on both sides of the road at Manihalla, Sarapady and Ajilamogaru. Several organisations have been urging to vacate the Jesus statue and the appeals have gone viral.

There is an offertory box of the organisations on government land in front of the disputed spot.

Catholic Sabha Allipade unit president Stany Menezes and members have requested tahsildar Smita Ramu to take an impartial action and maintain peace instead of taking action only against one religious community.

    Offertory box and statue of Jesus is on Govt.land ,who kept the box there ?Anyone from our religion or someone who collects it a private man?Kindly findout first.later remove the offertory box from there.With that box we dont have to tell about our religion but silent prayers.Noone has the right to tell to remove the statue ,.It doesnt make any problems.Let the people pass by wants to pray let them.It is just like any other statue of other one .Govt land is for everyone .Not particulrs.

    Offertory boxes along statues of Gods are signs of superstition and ignorance. Christians should come out of such practices.

    Something is amiss. Where exactly is the statue ? On public land, or on private property ? Just because other communities have collection boxes, why do you want a collection box or a statue outside the Church premises ? Common people, let's reserve our faith practices within the permitted space, not for a display.
