Fr. Vas was a Titan. Achieved huge milestones in life but shunned all publicity. ಎಲೆಯ ಮರೆಯ ಕಾಯಿ. He was a builder; of faith, trust and character. He was a unifier; of hearts and religions. Humble, noble, gentle, strict; where strictness was required, principled and kind. A great priest and a great man. Truly the salt of the earth. He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith and he has now gone for his heavenly reward. Revered last respects to you dear Father - Joel, Juliet, Lawrentina and Clementina

Rev. Fr. Vas, our Principal at Milagres High School, was known for his discipline. I recollect meeting him on my admission to Milagres for my high school education. He was a person of great administrative abilities who was instrumental in guiding lives and bring educational standards to a next level. I recollect my Dad, (Late Mr. John Baptist Rodrigues) who was a teacher at Milagres School, in Kallianpur, mentioning about Fr. Vas and he being colleagues together. It was Rev. Fr. Vas and his bold decisions that provided me great opportunity to learn in Milagres High School. I am thankful for the opportunity. I also had an opportunity to meet Fr. Vas at Paldane. He was a complete different person after retirement and with parish responsibilities, unlike his strict disciplinarian attitude which he sported at Milagres College. All in all, a great educationist and administrator, Rev. Fr. Vas, lot of Milagres passout will be grateful to you. We wish you eternal Rest in Peace. Jason Rodrigues. Batch of 1991 to 1994.

Fr. Vas was a great compassionate priest. we are so grateful to him as he was so accommodating to all the students who returned from Kuwait during the Gulf War when he was the Principal of the Milagres School. We were denied seats in all the boys schools in Mangalore, but Fr. Vas welcomed all the Gulf Returnee Students in1990 without any fuss and reservations. If not for him many boys would have lost one year of education. May God Grant him eternal rest. Rest in Peace Fr. Vas. May you be rewarded in heaven for all the help you gave us during our difficult time. Sincere condolences to his dear family members and the congregation.

I am so much touched by comments of gratitude towards Fr. Gregory William Vas from his erstwhile students . That shows how much he endeared himself to his students and what noble values he inculcated in them. My association with Fr. Gregory William Vas dates back to the year 1964 . He was erudite yet humble, strict yet compassionate. He walked in the steps of his Master, preached and lived a simple life without any ostentation. His golden jubilee as a priest was a very simple affair after a weekly Mass at Milagres. He did not want a big celebration. I was fortunate to come and live in Milagres parish where he spent two years as socius after retirement and that gave me an opportunity to share ideas and memories with him. May the Divine Teacher grant you the well deserved eternal reward , Fr Gregory William and intercede for us from heaven. Until we meet at Jesus' feet, farewell. - Marian Paul Rodrigues

May his soul rest in peace, the best principal Milagres had.. he was so disciplined and made sure all students were well behaved.. I was in primary school and it was my turn to tell the thought of the day.I had hurt my left toe badly the previous day, I was eager to tell "thought of the day" so came to school after forcing my parents to send me to school as if i miss it i won't get the opportunity for many many weeks, i stood near father anxiously waiting for my turn .. Meanwhile my toe was bleeding and i was so anxious that i did not notice.. father saw and immediately told the students to carry me to the medicine room and treat me.. I still remember how nicely he talked to me and told me to go home... I got the opportunity to tell the "though of the day" in the coming week !!

Fr. G.W. Vas, no more is one of the saddest thing and pain i have today. He was a gentle human, a good teacher who nurtured each student of Milagres with utmost care. Only by his presence standing on the ground, the whole ground would get empty in less than 2 minutes and there was silence in every class. A great teacher who shall be missed every now and then. Having studied under his guidance from KG to 10th, it has been a pleasant learning institute during his time. His humor, strictness, kind heart is something which cannot be found in todays schools. I feel myself blessed for being in good position today and all this is only because of Fr. Vas, without which we would not have gone out to conquer the world. May his soul rest in peace and he shall be missed by all the students of Milagres, who studied under his leadership

Thousands of families today bow in gratitude to Fr GW Vas, for at a time when Catholic boys coming from villages were not able find a school in Mangalore city to further their studies, he had accommodated all of them. He was nothing less than a true father. Boys from Assisi House, Bejai who studied under him at Milagres, hundreds of them today are priests and even bishops. The legacy of Fr GW Vas: Christian education isn't training first class students to get distinction, instead it is helping the failing students to get through... I always remember with gratitude his concern and love for Assisi Press and its progress. We miss you dear Father. May you be rewarded suitably by the Lord, dear Fr GW Vas.

Very sad to hear that Fr. G W Vas is no more. He was one of the few simple and steadfast priests who was 100% committed to his vocation. He never deviated from it under any circumstances or pressures. Before he took over Milagres High School, the reputation of this schoold was circumspect. He completely turned it around though his discipline and principled approach. May the Lord almighty welcome him in his Kingdom and provide him his appropriate reward. May his soul rest in peace.
