Udupi: Tons of sardines pile at Thottam seashore, fish lovers feast on easy catch

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (JS/EP)

Udupi, Sep 19: There was a bumper catch of sardine fish at Thottam sea shore here on Monday, September 19.

People flocked the shore and gathered the fish. Fishermen feel disappointed after waiting for fish sometimes even after spreading their nets but Monday was a storm of sardines.

Sardines were seen up to a distance of 200 metres. The fish might have weighed 500 kg to 600 kg, said the local people.

Fishermen say that the fish might have lost their way while avoiding engine noise and getting tarpped in the nets.

For even an insignificant fart people post immediately online... No one gave any hint and we were at stone's throw from the location... These fish are not any poisonous... They are wandered fish and lost direction due to unforeseen reasons... They can be safely consumed as they were alive until they fell out of water...

Symptoms of ciguatera poisoning generally appear between a few minutes and 6 hours after the toxic fish has been eaten. These include a variety of gastrointestinal, neurological, and cardiovascular abnormalities. The following are the most common symptoms of ciguatera poisoning. Dear friends, please be aware of these dead fish. Yes, we are poor but please be cautious.

The abundance of fish has symbolism for Christians. Fish represent abundance and charity of Christ to Christians. It calls to mind the story in the Bible of Jesus feeding thousands of people with a few loaves of bread and some fish.
