Mangalore, Feb 19: ‘There are people who live to eat…..’  so goes an adage about foodies.  As we know there are too few pleasures in life and food is considered to be one among them, one that occupies a prominent place.  With more income on hand  especially with the burgeoning middle class in a city like Mangalore , we have more and  more people who work hard  and would love to eat out in restaurants trying a variety of cuisine in an electrifying ambience.   To cater to the  palates of a potpourri of  people,   there has been a marked proliferation of eating places in  the coastal city of Mangalore in the recent past.

Madhuvan’s Village, the  Family Restaurant, has redefined eating out experience in Mangalore in its own unique way.  It makes one feel that eating out itself is an event that goes hand in hand with hospitality and ambience. Located on Airport Road, Yeyyadi, just a stones throw away from the famed Kadri Hills,  a short drive from any corner of Mangalore city,  it caters to  everyone -  men, women, family, couple, children or a group of buddies,  who want to have a  good time,  even as they savor some of the authentic and lip smacking coastal cuisine.  Of  course, one can choose from authentic Chinese, Continental, North Indian or South Indian or just leave it in the hands of their  ever eager ready-to- serve staff who would recommend “village special”  to leave you asking for more.

Started in 2002, Village Restaurant has found a niche of its own by virtue  of its  unique architecture complete with traditional as well as tiled roof,  brick walls and baked brick flooring, encompassed with a natural earthy atmosphere. One has to be innovative and keep moving with the times so that customers are offered something new or unique every time  they come to a restaurant.  Village Restaurant seems to have gauged this feeling of the people of this port city.   Now that the World cup cricket fever  is all set to grip Indians, Village Restaurant has responded to give the people a taste of their hospitality with Menu that is sure to set their adrenaline pumping.  The restaurant is going to  install a giant screen at the Village Green, the open air lawn with lush green area throughout the match period which gets started on 19th February with the grand finals slated slated for April, 2, 2011.

It also has plans to come up with  special offers and goodies for the guest apart from a special menu.  That would be a real enticer for the foodies who also would like to enjoy  sports with  gastronomical  palates.  During the much hyped IPL 20-20 match Village had come up with IPL Specials like Bhajji’s Spin (Mock tail) named after spinner Harbhajan , Yuvi Rays (Cocktail)   Dhoom Dham Dhoni Kebab (Chicken), Sachin’s 6’ers (Chicken),  Ishant-E-Paneer  (veg) and Pathan Ka Tadka (chicken).    One can expect  a sizzling menu  for  getting a sporty atmosphere at Village Restaurant during this entire 1 ½ month of cricket world cup starting February 19.   .

Being Different

The strong point of Village Restaurant is its unique architecture which is subtle, yet eye catching, ostentatious in a quiet way and awakens the soft feeling of nostalgia of another time and era.   Aptly titled ‘Village’, it aims to give a feeling of  a good old  village kind atmosphere of Mangalore, known for its thatched and tiled roofs, wooden artifacts, mud pots, bamboo groves etc,.   At Village Restaurant one can   enjoy myriad  ambiences  under a single roof as the five cottages  are distinctly diverse  yet cohesive.  “When you enter Madhuvan’s Village  you enter into a different world .  Our customers can enjoy five different  milieu within the confines of the  restaurant arena.  We have taken inspiration from  typical Mangalorean villages to give our customers a relaxed  and inspiring surrounding when they are enjoying our hospitality”, says its Manager.   Village is different and  unique in terms of its architecture, location, ambience  and  by virtue of its cuisine.

Village Retreat

It is just like retreating into a an old cottage with all the amenities.  The  cottage style individual cubicles built in traditional tile roof and baked  brick flooring are truly eye catching and arresting.   It is partially open on one side to give the customers the comforts of open air.  The tile roof ensures that the area is quite cool and  in a dimly lit atmosphere it is just ‘calm’ to  enjoy a quiet yet  bustling lunch or dinner either with family or group of friends.  It is a perfect place even for those  who would like to have a quiet  and unobtrusive  time away from the piercing  eyes of the public.

Village Cascade

Adjacent to the Retreat is the Village Cascade that resembles a typical village within the Village.  The experience of sitting and savoring your favourite delicacies is  exciting in  itself.   Sitting here one can get an airy and environment-friendly  experience  in a tastefully decorated settings.  The spacious thatched roof dining hall embedded with traditional artifacts is a sight to behold.  The dining hall is open on all sides for the cool breeze to move in  to mingle with the already cool  gushing waterfall, which is the highlight of this area.   The painted wooden pots,   the  antique lights, the boat, the tree trunk and other interiors  adds to the already  delightful atmosphere  of Village Cascade, the favourite of every one with a rustic look and calm environ.

Village Courtyard

Courtyard is the typical Indian village house where people used to gather for an evening rendezvous and Village Courtyard  recreates such a magical atmosphere for its guests taking a cue from the  good old courtyards.   This spacious area  complete with a rural setting succeeds in giving an earthy feeling.  The tile roofing, antique wooden doors, artistically painted and decorated walls with traditional themes and motifs,  adds to the aura of this courtyard making it an irresistible place to sit and lay hands on some of the delectable  delicacies churned out of the kitchen of Village Restaurant.

Village Greens

An open air lawn with lush green cover and surrounded with decorative bamboo groves, is the fantasy of every one who wants to feel the experience of living life king size outside home.  Combining cuisine with innovative surrounding is the highlight of Village Greens  as the unencumbered  atmosphere allows the gourmets maintain the zeitgeist  and  enjoy an invigorating feeling  in the company of family and friends, not to say even to those who want to enjoy the experience all alone, just for a change.  Greens  is ideal for those who enjoy dining under the mystique of the night sky and the aura that comes with its vast expanse.   With soft music and lighting to go with the mood and the ambience, the greens is the ideal setting for hosting a party for about 100 guests.    During the cricket world cup the managements has plans to hoist a giant television screen to help the guests get soaked in cricket fever.  Television screens will also be made available at the Cascade and Retreat.

Village AC Family Room

For  those foodies who cherish a quiet indoor atmosphere the luxurious A C family room  at the Village Restaurant is the right place and relish the multi-cuisine topped with  hospitality  which is the hallmark of Village Restaurant.  It is a no-smoking zone and is the preferred destination at the Village for those who prefer privacy and an intimate bonding  with close knit family or friend circle.

A wonderful place to dine. This is a very unique place. From day 1 they have maintained the quality of all the items they serve. Their staff extend a warm welcome and very good service. Madhuvan Village has just improved over the years. If a person visits this place he will be addicted to its food and ambiance. They have an edge over the other Restaurants when it comes to parking facility. I wish the proprietor Mr Jossie the very best and increased business in the years to come.

I had a get together with my family members in "Village". It was really good and clean. Good customer care, friendly approach by waiters, reasonable price, and food was good quality and quantity. Only one thing I was not happy was there was a lot of mosquitoes. I asked them to put some mosquito coils when we were eating which made a little discomfort. They can take of this by keeping some good knight electric coils where there is NO smell.

no doubt one of the best in M'lore as far as ambience and service is concerned with ample parking space for vehicles, but the praise in the second paragraph 'authentc Chinese' is debatable.
