Mangaluru: NREGA is only source of income for most women-oriented families

Mangaluru, Jan 22: Leela Serigarthi, a resident of Ulepadi village, Purinje Gudde within Aikala gram panchayat limits constructed a cattle shed at a cost of approximately Rs 30,000 under Mahatma Gandhi rural employment guarantee scheme (NREGA) and rearing cattle. The income has been supporting her family.

A women’s campaign will be held from January 15 to March 15 in order to promote the participation of women under Narega scheme. It is intended for them to identify women-oriented families and make the places of their work, women and children friendly.

Monetary help for poultry farming, construction of sheds for the rearing of goats, cows, pigs, mushroom cultivation and horticulture for women are available under the scheme. The requests can be submitted via Kayaka Mitra mobile app. Women in large numbers are expected to make use of the campaign.
