Mangaluru, Jan 19: City police commissioner Shashi Kumar, has warned that legal steps will be initiated against anyone found operating drones within the police commissionerate limits here without prior authorisation.

He noted that the city and surrounding areas have industries, tourist spots, religious and educational institutions, international airport, port, oil reserve and other sensitive areas. With a view to ensure their safety and in the interests of public safety, as per the instructions of the directorate general of civil aviation, prior permission has to be obtained for use of all classes of drones, he stated.

The police commissioner said that this permission can be obtained from the office of the deputy commissioner of police (law and order). He also mentioned that the operators should be accountable and also hold insurance to cover accidents or other types of incidents which might happen when drones are operated, and also to meet third party damages if any.
