Mangaluru Jan 1: Opposition leader Abdul Rauf of Mangaluru City Corporation said, “The district administration has completely failed in undertaking Smart City works.”

Addressing media here on Friday January 1, he said, “It has been two years since Smart City works began. Two months ago, roads in the city were closed for concretisation without any prior intimation which caused lot of trouble to the public. Now the works have been completely stopped, which again is a pain to the public. The district administration has completely failed. There is no quality in the work.

“Look at the concretisation work at Car Street. Within two months of the work, cracks have appeared on the road which seems to be unfit for the vehicular movement. There is no proper vision and plan in undertaking the Smart City works.

“In order to shift the central market, work was undertaken at football ground in haste. The expense was Rs 1.5 crore. Recently, the court has issued an order on the football ground and Nehru Maidan that it has to be used only for playing. Now the work undertaken with the expense of Rs 1.5 crore is a complete waste,” he said.

Corporators Lancelot Pinto, Naveen D’Souza, Shashidhar Hegde and others were present.

There is no attentiom to basic infrastructure like good roads and other public amneties.Instead the smart city work seems to habe been unfertsken in a hurry to meet the dradlines.Hope all thr major city roads and connecting roads are repaired at early date.

Raat Gayi Baat Gayi sort of press conference. The reason for all this chaos is due to a lack of a credible and strong opposition. As per the latest Panchayat elections results SDPI has emerged as a strong force edging Congress . Its in the best interests of Kannadigas to let SDPI don the mantle of the opposition .

The contract should have been given to some reputed national level companies. And administration first acquire the land for widening the road, shifting the electrical pools. Should have been done first. Instead of that, first they laid the concrete, and created problems. Here it is not planned.

I think its better if these press meets and conferences addressing such issues are held by the SDPI. They have a better and larger hold as opposition that even the district and state administration has acknowledged. Please make way for them as asap.

Lack of proper planning (city planning is outsourced from a diploma holder in architecture) and GHOOS are the only explanation for all this mess.Someone should write to CAG (Comptroller and Auditor general) for a forensic audit of all the works, undertaken by the "smart" people.Skeletons in the cupboard nothing else. Both political parties have to share the blame 60-40.

S.L Mathias road comes under Raufs ward . One of the worst roads in Mangalore, sewage is flowing in the storm water drains and there is a persistent stink of sewage in the area. Driving or walking on that road has become a nightmare. Rauf and his team is nowhere to be seen !!!!!
