Indians can bring any amount of foreign currency while coming to India. If the cash in foreign currency is more than US $ 5000 or cash and travellers cheques together is more than US $ 10,000, one has to declare at customs and get the receipt. Any one can always keep with him US $ 2000 and rest of the amount has to be surrendered within 90 days.

Even if a resident is gifted by any one came from outside,up to US $ 2000, one can hold it, but a proper letter from that person with his passport copy if kept is for record is advised. While travelling abroad for tour, by an authorized dealer, one can get US $ 3000. That means, one can travel on tour with US $ 5000, if he has US $ 2000 in hand already, otherwise US $ 3000 only with paper given by authorized dealer. For business, education, medical and immigration, different amount and rules are applicable.

Instead of changing farmers law please change customs law. Allow atleast 100 gm gold to bring. There is not much difference in international gold price and India gold. Indians prefer foreign gold because you get good quality gold in gulf. Foreign currency upto 4 lacs in not a big amount. Let the people bring forien currency, officially declaring in customs.
