Mangaluru: Horrific death trap awaits vehicle users near circuit house

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 26: A company which had undertaken the contract work of laying a water pipeline at the main road leading to Bejai from the circuit house had dug up the road on Wednesday November 25, for the purpose. The concerned dug up the road in the night but failed to fill the yawning void created in the middle of the road.

As the irresponsible people executing the work did not even take the minimum responsibility to create awareness about the danger lurking on the road ahead by way of warning signs, many unsuspecting vehicle riders who came through this road fell into the trap along with the vehicles.

The vehicle riders have expressed anger at the city corporation and the contracting firm for failing to level the road and not showing the minimum common sense to set up warning signs predominantly at the spot.

Unless public comes on the road in large nos & makes a big noise until the things are rectified nothing is going to happen; they are least bothered how many die or break their bones!

Public should go & gherao the sloppy contractor & pressurise him to rectify the mess he has made!

Seems like smart city ltd. projects are a cesspool for money making. Existing roads which were in good condition were dug up, existing footpaths have been destroyed to make new ones, an underpass has been constructed near town hall for no reason. Places like kpt junction and nanthoor junction which experience traffic jams everyday are ignored. Hampankatta requires a pedestrian crossing and the construction of the same is nowhere in plan.

The contractor for the pipeline did his job. He laid the pipeline.

The people who gave him the contract probably did not care how he did it. Whether he dug up the road or whether he left the holes or trenches uncovered, the contract did not clarify on it. A fine example of dysfunctional and insensitive administration.

Also, if you look at the new smart city footpaths towards bharath mall from lalbagh and towards jyothi from gold finch, they are so narrow that it's a balancing act for a person to walk on them. Have the smart city engineers lost their sensibility? Why aren't any MLAs /corporators doing inspections?

Our Deputy Commissioner/City Corporation Commissioner/Mayor should immediately conduct a spot enquiry if not already done and should suspend the concerned officials. They should black list the firm whose workers have been so irresponsible and charge penalty for having been careless. Thank you Daijiworld for publishing this news and photographs. Incase the Concerned Authority takes necessary action, I request Daijiworld to also publish the action taken so that the public could hail the action taken by the concerned authority.

As it is most Indian roads are in pathetic condition, for a time Mangalore had decent concrete roads, now this smart city project has destroyed most of it. The hate in which road are being dug up without any planning gives us lay people that there are vested interests whose only aim is to make a quick buck as the smart city project has a mega budget. The MCC, the contractors & those others responsible for the death trap near circuit house should be accountable for putting at risk our lives, surely none would want to visit a hospital in Covid times if one were victims of an accident.

Mangalore is filled with such things all over, and this is supposed to be s smart city. I ended up with a horrible scrotum injury aftr my two Wheeler ended up in one of these things and I continue to suffer.

So many vehicles suffer damage, people lose balance and fall resulting in getting run over by some big vehicle. Lower back injuries have become a common occurrence these days. Who's responsible? If we file a case people will laugh, people's representatives keep passing blames. Where should the common man go???
