Mangaluru, Nov 20: Think twice before littering at public places in the city. It may cost you high as the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to install CCTV cameras in several such places in the city to prevent people from littering in the public.

Though MCC had issued strict guidelines on segregation of waste, to put an end to dumping of building debris and solid and wet waste on the stretch of roads, MCC has taken this initiative.

Sources in MCC also stated that the MCC commissioner has directed the Health and Sanitation department to install CCTV cameras in such places. And, it is also learnt that officers of the department have identified 169 places in 60 wards where waste is being dumped on the road.

It is also said that at the initial stage, CCTV will be installed at prominent places nnd hefty fines will be slapped against the violators.

Speaking to daijiworld.com, MCC commissioner Akshy Sridhar said, "We have identified such black spots in the city. Initially, we will see how it works by installing CCTV cameras in a few places. If it works really well in pilot locations, we will extend it to other locations."
