Aug 13: Corona tally in DK crosses 8,000-mark; Udupi records highest single-day spike of 402 cases

Mangaluru, Aug 13: Dakshina Kannada (DK) on Thursday August 13 recorded 246 new cases and six deaths. In a major spike, as many as 402 fresh cases were reported in Udupi along with one death.

As per the district health bulletin, a total of 8,071 positive cases have been reported till date, out of which 1,948 are currently active. As many as 5,873 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, including 641 on Thursday which includes 100 from Covid care centres, 429 from home isolation and 112 from hospitals. A total of 250 deaths have occurred so far, including six on Thursday.

Among the 246 new cases, 103 have influenza-like illness (ILI), 10 have been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), 36 are primary contacts, and 97 are under investigation.

Out of the 246 cases, as many as 150 are from Mangaluru, 47 from Bantwal, 16 from Puttur, 7 from Sullia, 15 from Beltangady and 11 are from outside DK district. As many as 101 of the cases are symptomatic while 145 are asymptomatic. As many as 154 are males and 92 are females in Thursday’s total cases.

All patients who died on Thursday had comorbidities. While Mangaluru reported three deaths, one was from Bantwal, and two deaths were from outside the district.

Udupi

As per the health bulletin released by the Udupi district administration, a total of 5,002 people are in COVID hospitals/care centres, including 190 fresh admissions on Thursday, while a total of 2,166 people are in home isolation, including 212 new on Thursday.

As many as 4,258 people, including 292 on Thursday, have been discharged from isolation so far. These include 3,497 from hospital isolation wards, and 761 from home isolation.

A total of 50,793 samples have been collected so far, including 1,697 on Thursday, out of which 950 are COVID suspects and 276 are COVID contacts. Out of the total samples, 41,763 have turned out to be negative, including 1,185 on Thursday, and 1,855 reports are awaited.

As many as 7,175 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including 402 on Thursday, and 2,847 cases are currently active. As per the district bulletin, 70 deaths have occurred so far including one on Thursday.

The only death is of a 56-year-old male from Udupi who was suffering from severe Covid-19 with chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus Type-2, acute respiratory distress syndrome and hypertension.

Among the 402 new cases, 232 are in Udupi, 117 in Kundapur, 49 in Karkala, and four from outside the district. Among them, 176 acquired the virus through contacts, 81 have ILI, three have SARI symptoms, and 140 are under investigation. Two of them have domestic travel history.
