Bengaluru: ISIS activities in South India - NIA files charge sheet

Bengaluru, Jul 14: National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Monday July 13, filed charge sheet against 17 terror suspects who have been charged with organizing young people and training them to help ISIS terrorist organization to get deep-rooted in South India and for indulging in destructive activities.

The NIA conducted an investigation into the case registered in Suddagunte Palya police station on January 10, 2020. It had initially arrested main accused Mehboob Pasha and Khaja Moidin from Tamil Nadu.

They had volunteered to build a strong base for a terrorist organization supported by the ISIS in South India. They wanted to build the organization, 'Al Hind' with Karnataka as its base. Al Hind was started to launch its activities all over South India, the charge sheet filed by NIA mentions.

The gang's aim is to establish a caliphate and Islamic State in South India. For helping the organization, 'Al Hind', to get deep-rooted, the residence of Mehboob at Gureppana Palya was converted into 'Al Hind' office since 2019. Pasha and Khaja Moidin joined hands with Sadiq Pasha who was in contact with ISIS, in training other accused in destructive activities. They also were involved with certain destructive activities. They had turned Shivana Samudra and Gundlupet into their hideouts. They had put together a huge stock of explosive materials and made bombs from them. They were in touch with an ISIS handler living abroad. They used to chat with ISIS through Darknet, the charge sheet mentions.

The NIA has announced reward of five lac rupees to anyone who is able to provide information about Abdul Matheen Ahmed, another leading accused who has been absconding. The other accused named in the charge sheet belong to Kanyakumari and Bengaluru. Some of them are close relatives of Pasha, the NIA stated.
