Make Rahul Gandhi party President again, demand Congress MPs

New Delhi, Jul 11 (IANS): The chorus in the Congress to make Rahul Gandhi the party President again has grown louder, days after the matter was raised by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the CWC meet.

In the virtual meeting of party MPs on Saturday, the matter dominated the meet even as Rahul Gandhi kept quiet during the discussion.

Party MPs Gaurav Gogoi, who is close to Gandhi, and Manickam Tagore asked the party leadership to make Rahul Gandhi President to lead the party in the tough times, sources said.

Gehlot had, at the Congress Working Committee meet in June, made a demand for Rahul Gandhi's return to head the party.

Ahead of Saturday's meeting, veteran Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh asserted that the party leadership must take up the challenge of building the party organisation under the "dynamic" leadership of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, saying both have the guts and courage to take on the duo of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

"The Congress leadership must take up the challenge of building the party organisation brick by brick. This is where we need the dynamism of Rahul ji and Priyanka ji. I am sure both of them have the guts and courage to take on Modi-Shah twins," he said in a series of tweets.

But Rahul Gandhi had indicated that he may not return to the post anytime soon. "You, please read my letter that I wrote one year ago on that issue," he said last month in response to a question on the topic.

Rahul Gandhi had resigned as party chief after Congress was again decimated in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Being party president is one thing, but if he's to match wits with one and only Entire political scientist, he'd better acquire the necessary Jumla skills that come naturally to some.

What an irony. It did not work in 2014, It did not work in 2019. Will it work again. A leader who was booted out for non performance from his 100 year old home bastion and had to run to Kerala Wayanad to win on Muslim votes . Does the party still need such a leader and garner the same results.

How long will those who ask Rahul to take up party leadership stand by him? Even the CWC members at the recent meeting were afraid to back the questions raised by Rahul against the PM and his governance. The highest decision-making body was singing different tunes. Do these party men expect Ms Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and Priyanka to win elections for them and then start creating problems for the party by fighting for Ministerial berths for themselves and their kith and kin? These issues need to be addressed first. Congress has always given the nation the best of leadership and economic growth. Unfortunately, the Congressmen don't carry the message to the masses.

It's congress' internal decision yet popular and unanimous even if he loses elections. This is sure to give BJP Bhakths sleepless nights and hallucination but with great difficulty they defend themselves by saying this is BJP's gain.

Why Modi ran to Varanasi a BJP strong hold but challenged by a BSF jawan a formidable opponent to Modi. So, only after this jawan was dismissed by Modi govt influence then Modi registered his name to contest. RaGa also could have done the same by exploiting his influence but his chose a more a democratic method and contested somewhere else in India, moreover Kerala wasn't ruled by congress to be fare. Already the uneasiness is visible in blind Bhakths.

What influence ur pappu has? May be in some..... In Bangkok
MODI contested from Varanasi because he retained that seat in 2014. And he did not contest from Gujarath in 2019 On the same basis pppu should have contested only from one constituency from where he won in 2014.

Logic is simple! The nontransferable key to the huge pile is with the top three. All the others are happy with the crumbs. So, the drama keeps playing.
