Mangaluru, Jun 29: "All shops, malls and offices in the city are functioning normally. However, public entry is banned only in the office of Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). Only MCC office is scared of coronavirus?" asked the public in front of the closed MCC office building.

As a precautionary measure, MCC offices were closed for one week from June 29 and public entry was prohibited in order to maintain a safe distance.

Mayor Divakar Pandeshwar on Sunday, June 28 evening, had declared the office closed for a week. However, as it was Sunday and evening, the news did not reach many citizens. So as people thronged the MCC office on Monday, the security guards were sending them back.

Many citizens, including elderly and women, were seen arriving at the MCC office for various works including the collection of birth and death certificates. But, they were not being allowed to enter by the security guards. Only officers and staff of MCC were allowed to enter inside the building.

As a further precautionary measure, the whole MCC building was sanitized using fire service engine.

MCC please request you to make property tax payment online. You can get the software from Bangalore BBMP. They have it ready and working for several years. Please listen to this request from citizens urgently. Thank you.

Please provide online facilities so that citizens can use them. Why hasn't the property tax payment made online yet? Similarly there are many other requirements that need to be online. Just closing the MCC office will not help, provide alternate arrangements.

Exactly. So many services can be made online. Property tax payment, water bill, applications for various services, RTO etc. But if all that migrates online, kimbala goes offline. So they will never make it online. It is so pathetic really, even to pay our dues, we have to struggle.

Why protest MCC was closed to avoid covid spike. Best is to make all services like property tax, water bill, Muda approval for buildings, sub division, building plans online. This will stop corruption at MCC totally, No. 2 it will make the building to be used for other good use. What is meaning of Smart city making everything online is part of a Smart city
