Mangaluru International Yoga Day programme observed by NSS unit, St Agnes College

Mangaluru, Jun 22: June 21 is celebrated as International Yoga Day since 2015 on the theme ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace’all over India.

Due to the lockdown this year, the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, here, celebrated International Yoga Day on June 21 online. With regard to this celebration, the department organized a live video programme on Vijayi Bhava YouTube Channel. The details of this programme were announced in the second week of June and the participants were requested to register online on or before June 20. More than 300 participants from St Agnes College (Autonomous) and more than 1 lac participants including NSS volunteers, other students and staff from Karnataka state participated in this programme. The main theme of this programme was ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’. It began at 8.20 am on June 21.

The dignitaries present for the programme were Dr E V Ramana Reddy, IAS, Additional chief secretary, department of Higher Education and Information Technology, Government of Karnataka, Pradeep Prabhakar, IAS, Secretary of the deputy chief minister and commissioner Department of Collegiate Education, Government of Karnataka, Venkatesh Prasad, former Indian cricketer, Madhushri Sandarsh, certified yoga practitioner and Dr Shobha.

Pradeep Prabhakar introduced the dignitaries and also welcomed the participants of the programme. Dr E V Ramana Reddy inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, he enlightened the participants on the significance of the following traditional practices to improve our immunity, maintain health and to be safe during this pandemic of COVID-19.

The programme began with warm up exercises followed by different types of yoga asanas ending with Sarva Shanti Mantra.

After the entire session, Venkatesh Prasad, requested all the participants to take an oath to continue practicing yoga every day. Madhushri Sandarsh, in her message emphasized on the three important factors namely food, postures and mindset that play a vital role in the life of the person practising yoga.

The programe ended at 9.30 am with the vote of thanks by Pradeep Prabhakar.
