Mangaluru: Slaughterhouse construction dropped from Smart City Project

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 13: The proposal to develop the slaughterhouse at a cost of Rs 15 crore at Kudroli here under Smart City Project has been dropped.

The then Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister in the previous coalition, U T Khader, had solidly backed the proposal to build a slaughterhouse. His recommendation had courted controversy immediately. The BJP leaders, who had vehemently opposed the proposed, had demanded for the shifting of the slaughterhouse to the city outskirts. But Mangaluru Smart City Board had included the slaughterhouse proposal in its agenda in a hurry and prepared a detailed project report. But the board, where the BJP has predominance now, has taken a decision to jettison the proposal.

Hindu organizations had held a protest meeting against the then minister U T Khader, for planning to spend Rs 15 crore towards slaughterhouse at Kudroli out of the Smart City fund. Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal leaders had declared that they will not allow at any cost, to release a grant of Rs 15 crore for the development of the slaughterhouse that is located on a 40 cent land.

The resolution to release Rs 15 crore for the slaughterhouse had been approved at the Smart City board meeting held in October, 2018. Out of the directors of the board, BJP representative, Premananda Shetty, was the only one who opposed the proposal while Congress leaders supported the plan. The proposal is now before the union government's urban development ministry.

In the past, U T Khader had challenged the MP to block the proposed project if he had the capacity to do so.

Mangalore (south) MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, said that the previous government had planned to develop the slaughterhouse at Kudroli at a cost of Rs 15 crore. He clarified that the project has now been removed from the ambit of Smart City Project as there is a proposal to shift it to the outskirts of the city.

" Food fo thought " There are scientific evidence, that suggests humans beings are more prone to life threatening diseases, when they consume non vegetarian food !!! Today the health conscious western nations, are realizing the fatal consequences of consuming meat products, are slowly turning into vegans !!!!! Moreover, we should also consider the sentiments of those vegetarians, who are offended, when new slaughter houses are deliberately created in their areas... This results in constant friction, uneasiness, resulting in turbulence in our society !!!!!

Do you even realise that 90% of large fish population is already gone ?? But again, stone agr man was hunting to eat and even before fire was found humans used to eat raw meat. There wasnt one vegetarian. Everyone hunted their own food. And then the earth was peaceful. Because there was no religion at all.

Such dirty politics. If the BJP is doing this, then they are appeasing just one side. They are being selective and they are being hypocrites. Every decision they take shows how insecure they are of minorities. Orelse why would they torment the minorities like this ??

Appeasing? BJP has the right to do so. They have always placed themselves as pro-hindu party and appeasing Hindus when they are in power comes with no surprise.
But, Congress, with a tag of 'secular party' has been appeasing Muslims throughout for their votes and that is definitely wrong. It is hypocrisy!

Dear Shanker sir, atleast the Congress has been appeasing the minorities not just Muslims. And they have been appeasing the needy. Unlike BJP where they appease not the Hindus but the upper castes in Hindus. The theory that they are totally pro Hindus is the biggest sham a lot of people have fallen prey to. They have only two kind of people. Their supporters and their critics.

Having a state of Art Slaughter House is need of the hour. But, the slaughter house must be in a vast area where the animals are kept at ease than putting them in crumpled place. Moreover, there must be more Humane approach and animals must be killed with the least pain and suffering. Dark room slaughter must be considered as well as multiple culling room where in one animal is taken in at a time, also the carcass and blood is completely removed and cleaned before another animal must not be walked in. Acclimatisation of room such as walking the animal through this room number of times before feeding so that, they need not be pushed must also be tried. This facility must be there for large animals like Cattles and Goats whose intellectuals are far more greater than birds like Chicken. Moreover, Cattles and Goats are very close to Human and they have tremendous trust on us . Hence, when we slaughter one animal the care must be taken that another animal doesn't see it . If we follow these methods the human can consume better meat otherwise the stress toxins released from the current method of slaughter may not healthy.

The best proposal would be this.
Instead of one slaughterhouse in a prime location costing 15 crores, locate cheaper options at the outskirts for 2 crores each and develop 7 slaughterhouses.
Open up some outlets in the city (like Nandini milk booths) where they can sell beef. The board should mention 'beef only' so that people of aversion towards beef need not enter.
    maintain hygiene.
Thus when supply meets the demand, cow theft will automatically stop and communal tensions too.

Oh oh vikku, I am against killing animals. As Monty Sir said, they are dependent on human beings. We encroached their land. Whatever he mentioned I fully agree with him. When they're taken to be slaughtered, due to the excessive fear their bodies release toxins which permeates into the meat, muscle etc. Due to this the meat becomes in a way toxic and the taste Of the meat changes as well. This Isn't good for health. We rear them, love them and we should look after them till their death. Evenif you would have got atruck of chicken as per your promise I would have left them free here in the jungle with a tag don't catch this bird....

Oh my God..!!...15 crore for a slaughter house!!....first improve the footpath conditions of city..concretize the interior roads of the city...when you build roads..footpaths are must..that is where Mangalore city lags as what i observed...the funny part is ...under smart city funds they built new footpaths from pabbas to lady hill and even in mannagudda road...some great environmentalists harvest trees right on footpaths...unfortunately people cannot use those paths....Kindly use some commonsense.

In view of zoonotic (origin in animals) diseases like Corona, slaughter houses are best kept outside city limits, better still people should go vegetarian /vegan like me as methane produced by rearing animals for slaughter is the highest contributer of environmental pollution. From the ethical point of view animals have brains and can feel pain , can someone owning a pet think of slaughtering it and eating it up? -The answer is NO.We have to show compassion towards animals as they cannot defend themselves .On the other hand humans are encroaching on thier land also.Better to live in harmony with nature.
