First chartered flight from Dubai to land in Mangaluru on June 1

Daijiworld Media Network - Dubai (SD)

Dubai, May 30: The first chartered flight from Dubai is all set to depart from Ras Al Khaimah Airport on June 1.

As many as 105 staff members of Fortune Group of Hotels would be flying on the chartered SpiceJet flight arranged by the hotel chairman and president of the Karnataka non-resident Indian forum (KNRI) Praveen Shetty.

The flight is scheduled to depart at 9:45 am carrying total of 180 passengers, consul general of India to Dubai, Vipul confirmed.

Government authorised private companies or community groups to operate chartered flights to fly back stranded Indians on May 26 following the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown imposed which halted almost all international flights.

Vipul said that the flight from Dubai scheduled on June 1 is not the first flight from the UAE. He also said that IgG/IgM tests would be conducted for all passengers as it was being done for Vande Bharat flights.

Shetty said that the decision was taken as three out of seven hotels were completely non-functional after the pandemic. However, he said that none of the employees’ visas were cancelled and they are likely to be hired once the situation gets back to normal.

The staff members returning mostly hail from Mangaluru, Udupi, Kasargod and Kundapur.

    @Naresh, Udupi,
    I think you are getting disturbed by people coming down from overseas and to their own country. If you are so concerned & only thinking about you only why don't you isolate yourself in some remote area where nothing is available and no body can meet you. I feel pity on your thoughts which clearly states you need to isolate yourself rather than suggesting others not to return to their own country. India belongs to all the people who are born in India & not for you alone.

    Naresh don't you worry, these people are going to their own houses which they built with their hard-earned money so they don't require your permission. They won't come to your house. If you have problem with our brothers and sisters going to their own houses, you may go wherever you feel safer because you have the problem and not them. Selfish!!!

    It will be cheaper for NRI entrepreneurs to send people back home by charted flights rather than keeping them without jobs. The expenses they will incur for housing, food, water, visa renewal, the worries of employees getting COVID, will be much more than one side charted flight cost. Even the Middle East governments will be happy about having fewer ex-pats in their country at this critical situation. The NRI entrepreneurs also will be out of legal trouble from local authorities compared to the home quarantine in India.

    As all the industries in the Middle East have been asked for more localization more people will be losing their jobs. Also the uncertainty in the tourism and hospitality industry will effect these countries
