Mangaluru: No guidelines by district administration - Private bus owners in confusion

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, May 24: Lockdown 4.0 is in force all over the state of Karnataka and the norms are relaxed. The state government has also given the go ahead for the private buses to start operations. However, the bus owners of Dakshina Kannada district are in confusion as the district administration has not yet issued them guidelines that need to be followed during transportation of passengers by buses.

Private bus owners of the district are saying that they will start operating buses from June 1 in all parts of the district including Mangaluru city. Now they are just waiting for the guidelines to be issued by the district administration.

So far only some government buses are plying in the district of Dakshina Kannada. Government buses are not operating in the city of Mangaluru. Usually 40 buses used to operate in the city earlier. District-in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary had already held a meeting and had asked the concerned officials of KSRTC to start operating government city buses. However, the service has still not started.

The private bus owners of the city are confused as to how many times the bus needs to be sanitized if operated daily. Also there is no clarity over the number of passengers per trip, there are doubts over necessity to keep hand sanitizers in the bus. It is not clear if the buses have to ply on specified routes only and also if the fare can be increased.

Only complete guidelines issued in this regard by the district administration will resolve the confusion in the minds of the bus owners, which will facilitate private bus operations from June 1.

This is an opportunity to take out the private buses from the road and introduce Govt. buses within and outside city limits. Give jobs for all those drivers and conductors in Govt. buses.
Make DK safe from Bus mafia and rash driving within the city limits.
    Jai Hind.

One must decide whether life and health is more important or economy. Opening bus and peoples movement will spike coronavirus pandemic beyond control. Herd immunity doesn't work in India as many have lack of basic hygiene and thus poor immunity levels. If you sit at home, work online, safe contactless services, you save in travel, commercial electricity bills, petrol, commuting time and rentals, most importantly you will be safe n healthy. The other side us roam, go to shop, sit wait fir business of ariund Rs. 300 to maximum Rs. 500., pay commercial tax, electricity bill, rentals plus If you contract coronavirus, then you are hospitalised, hospital bills are not less than a lakh. So one needs to sensibly choose what is good for him, her before they get into old routine of conventional business. Instead change course, stratergy, work online, stay at home. Choice is yours

Private bus service is lifeline of our District's economy. It is not just Administration's responsibility but bus owners responsibility as well to come up with the best and most feasible solution without compromising the safety. Cashless and Ticket less service is of them i can suggest.

Allow buses to run with one seat vacant between two passengers. Allow bus owners to determine the rate. Those who need will avail services

If city buses are not going to start, administration and RTO jointly make alternative arrangements for passengers like POINT TO POINT RICKSHAW service in some like in some cities. I have seen in Delhi, and in Karwar also , Rickshaw services from one point to other point and on fixed rate. In that distence anybody can take the Rickshaw. When two passengers ready, that time Rickshaw will go. Any passengers can get in ir getdown as they like. But half rate both have to share .administration must make specified route ( that is point to point ) .I think slowly bus passengers will attract this type of service. No rush, no waiting, no waste of time. First step towards smart city.

Which is expensive to run ? A bus, or an aircraft ? We've seen pictures os seating arrangements on an aircraft during Covid evacuation. Just one person at a place earlier were three persons. Are the bus operators ready for this rule ? Can you afford it ?

Rest of the issues are secondary though essential.

Corona virus halted airline industries as well. Not only private busses. Private bus owner should not pressurize district administration. District administration can not predict day to day Corona pendemic. We all waiting WHO guidelines.

First WHO guideline was 'test, test, test'. Other guidelines are published on their website. You think administration even bothers to visit WHO website. It is mostly make mistakes then try to correct.
