‘Inter-district movement of individuals allowed only on genuine reasons’ – Udupi ADC

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, May 20: Clarifying public's complaint on the restrictions of inter-district travel from Udupi to other districts, assistant deputy commissioner (ADC) Sadashiva Prabhu said, “There was a little confusion regarding the state order of free movement of individuals between districts. But we have clarified the issue with everyone concerned. Today, we have asked all the tahsildars, police departments and concerned authorities to follow state orders and allow free movement of individuals between districts."

Reportedly, there were complaints regarding free movement of individuals between districts. Public lamented that even though they had a genuine reason to travel, officials urged them to produce government-issued passes at the check posts.

ADC Sadashiva Prabhu

"To travel by car, as per orders, a driver and two passengers in the backseat is allowed. But the passengers willing to travel to other districts should have a legitimate reason. Travel is allowed for work-related reasons, hospital visit for patients, and shifting the family. However, this will be allowed only when the travellers provide a copy of their documents asserting that the reason for their travel is genuine," he said.

"No one is allowed to cross the border just for the sake of visiting Mangaluru or other districts. The first order allowing free movement between districts was issued late at night. However, due to the communication gap, the concerned authorities were puzzled on whether to follow the orders or not. Fortunately, the issue is clarified and free travel will be allowed between districts, but only for valid reasons," he added.

Frankly speaking, I don't think this ADC has any problem meeting relatives in other districts since from what I am seeing only govt people are allowed to roam freely. While we non-govt people are made to sit at home. I don't think they even think on behalf of the common people. We might have relatives in other districts. We might be working far away in Bangalore and might need to visit our family once a month. What if Coronavirus does not go away for years. Do we stay they there till then? Lockdown or not , Coronavirus cases seem to be increasing. Atleast by lockdown if they had got it under control, then this would have been ok.

Nalla Sopara is not a district. It is a place near Vasai. Also, there is a railway station there by that name. It is under Vasai Virar Municipal corporation. District name is Palghar. I do not understand what relevance it has with Jossey, since he does not live in Nalla Sopara.

I think so very soon we will be needing visas to travel
    to.other districts & states.
If a person has to visit other district take his complete details .
    His car vechile no.
    Phone no.
Passengers names only if ( blood related allow)otherwise no permission
Person whom.he is visiting ( that persons all details)
When e expected return( minimum 1/2 days)
If he doesnt return on said date/ time call him.impose fines.
The entry & exit should be from same boader / gate

The DGP says "no documents required to travel within state". Now this ADC either thinks he is one above the DGP or he thinks that he knows more than others.

The Corona Virus will probably remain for another 6 months. Does it mean that entire country will stay indoors? So far 4 stages of lock down could not produce expected results or at least could not stop increases in number of cases. What is the ADC thinking now?

Even countries like USA have found that lockdown is not the real answer. The country has to face the situation boldly and save from economic crisis. Social distancing, reporting the cases early and providing adequate medical facilities should be the priority.

"However, this will be allowed only when the travellers provide a copy of their documents asserting that the reason for their travel is genuine," he said."

Once again it's totally confusing!!!! What documents to be submitted to visit a patient??? What document to be submitted to visit elderly parents??? What documents to be submitted to sifting the family????
Why can't they be more specific and clear. Educated people cannot give clarity when they give a press release.

If one wants to drive to Udupi district from Bangalore to pick up stranded family by private car, is that allowed? Hope udupi administration will not quarantine the person and let them return with family next day to Bangalore. It is impossible to cover the distance up and down in one day. Hiring a taxi and paying return fare is too expensive.
