Migrant labourers walking to Mangaluru from Manipal stopped at Kaup, sent back

Daijiworld Media Network - Kaup (MS)

Kaup, May 17: Nearly 50 migrant labourers from the state of Jharkhand, who were walking from Manipal to Mangaluru railway station in a bid to get back to their native place, were stopped at Kaup and sent back to Manipal.

The incident took place on the morning of Sunday, May 17.

The labourers were engaged in building construction activity at Manipal for some time. They believed that arrangements had been made for them to reach Jharkhand from Mangaluru railway station and set on foot from Manipal to the station.

Locals, who saw the group walking on NH 66 near Koppalangady in Kaup, informed the same to the police. On inquiry by the cops, the groups said that they were going to Mangaluru railway station to catch the train to their native place. They also said that since one week they have been facing scarcity of food as they do not have ration cards.

Meanwhile, beat officers have been informed that if there are any stranded migrant labourers from Uttar Pradesh, they should be asked to register themselves at the taluk office.

Self preservation is a natural instinct. Hope we as humans have gone beyond that. Recent acts suggest otherwise. Doctors, Nurses, Covid patients targeted. Sufferings of fellow human beings ignored. If we lose our humanity, mere existence will and should be pointless.

All for one and one for all.

It saddens me to see how selfish we have all become. Well, not all of us. I know doctors who, if I have to quote, said to me 'Both Covid-1 and the god of death shivers in front of the person who is ready to die'.

They are willing to give up their life to save us. But we feel the need to report helpless people trying desperately to survive to the authorities. And what do the authorities do ? They take pride in the fact that they have not allowed these poor souls to reach places that they though would help them survive.

Sad state of affairs. Introspect, my dear citizens. For once, let us put our survival instincts aside.

Govt. is announcing lakhs of crores package for whom?
These announcements seem to be fake, just to pacify public temporarily.
These workers have the right to return to their places of origin, since nobody including MP and MLA of Udupi took any note of them since this ill planned lock down.
If they cannot take care of them, at least let them travel back to their villages to be with their families, which was deprived from day one of ill planned lock down.
    Jai Hind!!!

Please read the news again and make sensible comment. They are telling there is scarcity of food and they are starving. This is the fact and government has completely ignored this section of people who are without ration card. No effort is done to provide ration or money for shelter so that they can stay back.

Who is spreading the fake news? Is it from Fake IT cell? Catch them. Provide food and shelter to these people, they will stay back. These people have lost faith in the system and that is why they want to go back to their roots.

Surprisingly all those supporting Modi have no courage to accept the failure of the system but put the blame on migrants themselves. One man's wrong decision at wrong time has taken toll of whole India.

Read the the third paragraph of the news report again and again. Then you may be (just may be) able to make sense of my comment. Now regarding your question that who is spreading fake news, some time ago one day a couple of thousand people gathered here near Bandra railway station in Mumbai, and within 24 hours a local politician who had spread the fake news that there was train leaving from the said station, was arrested. Now don't ask me what that politician gained by spreading fake news. Similar incident happened at Mangalore Central station few days ago. Not sure whether the culprit was apprehended. Only motive of such people is to create confusion and create ill-will for the government in the minds of gullible people .There was a reason why special trains were not arranged for migrant labourers at the start of the lock-down. If you have the habit of following news you would have known that. Just like other people of your ilk, you have mentioned "system failure”. Such people mainly belong to that bunch that becomes wise after the incident. You won’t be able to see things and events in right perspective until you cure yourself off your allergy towards a certain politician and a certain political party. Get well soon.

This govt has taken inconsiderate decisions as always... They have arranged for trains but no arrangements for people to reach the station... Does the govt think that all migrants live around only these specific stations... How does a daily wager reach a railway station without road transport.. govt should have arranged for pick up points transport and allow only those who have tickets confirmed.. like how airport buses work in normal days.. was it that difficult to analyse.. or this govt just believes in making announcements with actually making any arrangements... Every country has people migrating to diff cities but only pathetic condition of Indian migrants is on news all over the world... Something we doing is absolutely not right at all... As long as 37pc stupid people blindly support such a govt we have worse days to follow

Udupi District is doing wonderful job by harrasing these poor people's.
From last 2 months nobody understand the problem of these poor people.
We are sending flights to foreign countries
We are sending special buses for rich students.
But we are unable to send these poor people.
How much distance from Manipal to Kaup they committed by walking.

If our Government annoounced these people's 2 to 4 days before lockdown to goback their homeland & arrange for them special trains means they will happily stay with their families.

We will definitely bear the curse of these innocents.

Whats the use of 20 lakh crore if it is of immediate no use to these poor migrants ?? The govt has been announcing lot of long terms plans. But has failed to understand that there is only so many days a human can sustain, without food and shelter. Attend to the basic and immediate needs of these people. They are the people who build our nation.

There are only 50 of them, can the authories arrange 2 buses and send them to Railway station or wherever they want to go.
