Beltangady, Sep 16: Thieves broke into a house in Alandila of Kuvettu village in Beltangady taluk and made away with gold ornaments worth Rs 15.82 lac and Rs 1.80 lac in cash. The incident occurred while the family members were away attending a relative's housewarming ceremony.

According to the complaint filed by Noufal B M (34), a resident of Alandila, he had sent his wife, children, and mother to the housewarming function on the afternoon of September 13. He then locked the house and headed to Beltangady for his vegetable business.

On September 14, workers were called to the house for some wiring work. Farooq from Maddadka brought Ashraf from Kudradka and Sulaiman from Shirlalu to carry out the task. Noufal's younger brother, Mohammed Naushad, was present at the house during this time, the complaint stated.

When Noufal and his family returned home around 8:30 pm that night, they discovered that a box containing gold, which was kept in the bedroom cupboard, was missing. Upon further inspection, they realised that a total of 113 grams of gold ornaments worth Rs 15.82 lac—including two gold chains weighing 32 grams and 26 grams, a baby's gold chain, anklets, and a bracelet—along with Rs 1.80 lac in cash, had been stolen. Additionally, three rings weighing 7 grams belonging to Noufal's mother were also missing.

In his complaint, Noufal expressed suspicion against the three workers—Ashraf, Farooq, and Sulaiman—who had visited the house for the wiring work. A case has been registered at the Beltangady police station, and further investigations are underway.
