Mangaluru: Inconvenience caused to Dubai passengers - DC issues clarification

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, May 13: “The first Air India flight that landed in Mangaluru from Dubai with 177 passengers on Tuesday, May 12. As per government orders, those who arrived in such flights are compulsorily required to be quarantined at their own cost. These passengers have been ordered to be under quarantine as per such directions from the government,” said deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh. She was clarifying allegations which claimed that the arrangements for the NRIs returning to India was below expectations.

Accused of neglecting non-resident Indians from Dubai, the DC clarified stating that the district administration has taken actions according to government regulations and that travellers had an option to pick the hotels for quarantine from a given list. The travellers were also notified of the hotel rates. "The details of quarantine and the rates were announced earlier. The details were provided on the website when the applications were being submitted," she asserted.

DC Sindhu B Rupesh

Responding to the accusations of delay after landing, the district commissioner said that amid the current scenario, the airport procedures would be delayed. The process reportedly faced a delay of over 3 to 4 hours after landing. This was because only 20 were allowed to get out of the plane at once. Further, screening of the passengers can also contribute to the delay. “Inspections were being conducted in the airport as per directions of the government. Passengers in the special flight cannot be let out all of a sudden. They have been allowed to go out at the rate of 20 passengers at a time. Therefore, the travellers had to remain in the aircraft for some time.” she added.

Reportedly, there were 40 pregnant women in the flight and necessary health check-ups were carried out, both on the night the plane landed and the following Wednesday morning. “All the passengers were examined and sent for quarantine by 2.30 am. The tests of 40 pregnant women who arrived on the flight were held today," the DC said.

The government has allowed a relaxation of rules for the NRIs. Pregnant women, children, women and the elderly have been given a certain amount of leeway.

Those who have tested negative after the swab test have been ordered home quarantine, DC Sindhu Rupesh clarified.

Further, regarding the migrant workers situation, the DC said, “The government has accepted applications through Seva Sindhu app from migrant workers who are in distress in the district. Over 40,500 applications have been received. Trains will run to other states from May 9. Most of the applications were from Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Arrangements for them are being made in stages. We have received around 25,000 applications regarding those who are arriving in the district from other states. The district administration has cleared 2,000 applications so far. Around 179 people have already arrived from other states, 25 of them have been placed under institution quarantine. Most of the applications regarding arriving have been submitted from people in Maharashtra."

Nothing doing Madam.... Just strict to rules.... Some people always have complaints even if you put them in Heaven.... may come up & saying why there is no Internet or Pubs in Heaven??? There are some Communities.... they don't have guts to ask any question where they work & stay.... but moment they land in India.... they start questioning anything for everything. This is the difficult time for everyone and for every country.... so people should understand & co-operate each other

There's no need to see through X ray. What Shankar said that everyone knows and there will be many more items/gifts etc. These are the known factors. Pregnant ladies should mainly concentrate on themselves. They have to look after two lives. Guidelines are clearly given as to no family members should come to receive the passengers. Before it was OK family members were coming and helping their loved ones. Since this situation is completely different and maintain of social distance other Co passengers may not have given helping hand as per the strict rules. In the airport porters will help. Outside the airport in this condition who will help? Such passengers should divide their luggage into two bags 10kgs and 10 kgs/ or 10/5 and should take only important and necessary things... This way, they can avoid damages causing to their health...

I wish if you would have realise the stress of pregnant women travel alone with children left alone to carry theirs own luggage. Immediately after landing at airport if you people start blaming airport and government authorities, no one will give you respect. Instead, because of you people stranded at Gulf can suffer.

If you people refuse to obey the instructions given by Govt, Govt may rethink about airlifting remaining NRIs from Gulf.

I totally disagree with allowing home quarantine. These few hundreds may infect many now as in Dubai every 3rd person has asymptomatic corona. Mangalore will become Mumbai in the corona soon. For all that money is taken from the tax payers money. But when your own 40 sisters from DK who were pregnant and suffered so much stress etc you are bringing up Govt. rules and policies. how you are justifying it. You got the right & power please speak to Govt.

As per the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), remittance is received from the approximately 35 million members of the Indian diaspora.
India retained its position as the world's top recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending a whopping USD 79 billion back home in 2018, the World Bank said in a report Monday.

Raju Karkal, First for your info, government-arranged flight in the name of evacuation but each passenger paid their own ticket and not a free leisure trip. (Major part of the air ticket is the tax amount and until date, we pay IRS700/tax for airport utilization so no taxpayer money is used. To your blank brain, see the breakdown summary of three return ticket from Mangalore to Dubai. Airfare: RS7224/-, Tax Rs13231/-Special services Rs700/-(Airport tax).Optional extras Rs1135/- GST Rs: 342/-). Secondly, because of overseas remittance by NRIs, country economy improves. Read the below article and widen your knowledge.
"What is an NRI’s Contribution to the Indian Economy?
NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) contribute to the Indian economy significantly. It aids the Indian economy at a large-scale specifically generating employment internally by strengthening national savings, capital accumulation, investment, and so on. On the small-scale, the remittance received by the family members is used to meet their basic needs, and open up opportunities for investing in education, health care, and so forth"
Pls come out of karkalla, improve your level of knowledge, and widen your horizon. Also, understand the meaning of “evacuation”. Do you have answer to the simple questions? 1) When free quarantine facility available why the authority insists to go to the hotels? 2) Why didn’t they have prioritize the pregnant and elderly embark first and send the designated quarantine center in ambulance instead of making them climb the KSRTC. 3) Why porter’s facility not provided at least for pregnant and elderly? 4) Why did not provided minimum basic need by providing drinking water bottles.
Government is not utilizing taxpayer’s money, but they collect tax from the passengers in form of tax.

Every time when I write about NRIs, they reply with figures of foreign remittances they made. They deposit money in their own account. And they only spend it. Then how Govt gets benefit from this.

If you are thinking that foreign exchange reserve is entirely depend on the NRIs remittance, then its your misunderstanding. A small export unit can earn much more foreign exchange than NRIs remittance.

Have you anytime heard Govt encouraging people to go to gulf to work, so that govt can get foreign exchange? Don't fool us.

I think every passenger travelling during this time should not compare with their experiences during regular or normal days ..I would say the delays are in expected lines ..what needs to be done as standard procedures needs to be followed .There is no bypass..Yes ..preganant women children can be made to sit and provided required medical care

Only contention is the quarantine period of 14 days in a hotel of their choice and @ 2000 to 3000 IRS.
Once the test is negative ,they can be allowed to leave the hotel and start home quarantine ..while actively being monitored by mobile apps.

Do you want an India which is has not set any rules and procedures for covid which major countries in the europe and gulf have not established ?

If home quarantine is allowed it may be risky for entire area due to asymptomatic carriers. Every citizen need to be responsible enough and don't cause danger to someone else life ignoring quarantine duration.

Don't get sooo much scared to turn OFF for replying in your comment. People like you who are careless has caused USA COVID rate to peak highest & have to ask help from Canada to keep borders for nurses from Canada to travel to USA hospital.
Secondly know what is going in your country at least . Below is the link for your info from CDC https://www.cnbc.com/2020/01/31/cdc-quarantines-wuhan-passengers-in-california-under-federal-order.

Here is a link for your info about Canada

About person jumping from top of the post he is opposite to your behaviour too scared .Every thing has limit including breathing, eating etc, So by eating more you may get digestion problem doesn't mean you don't eat :)

One thing is very clear that there was no proper arrangements upon arrival for the passengers. After traveling almost 4 hours by air and landing at 10pm in the night there should have been enough good arrangements at least for the pregnant women, children and elderly people.
I salute daijiworld for their timely action.

Here we don't blame anyone. But the hotel bookings, the food availability, the transport availability, medical fecilities, also information of their family members and Allow at least one to accompany with arrived passenger will make police personal work easy. Great job done by police as per Indian standard. I love and respect Indian police. God bless.

There are other countries where we do not find such poor service, the problem here is not the staff, but, lack of training to the employees and no clear vision.

There is no pressure if one is clear on how to do and what is expected to be done.

If every thing was good at Gulf, why you people came back. Has anyone requested you come back. You should have pressurized Govt there to give you facilities. You should have formed a union there.
