Mangaluru, Apr 21: Over 300 petrol buns functioning in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have launched a 'no mask, no fuel' campaign now. This decision has been taken to inspire people to wear masks without fail when venturing out, in order to fight coronavirus infection. The bunks will henceforth sell petrol and diesel only to those who wear masks.

Many are hesitant to wear masks and maintain social distance even though coronavirus infection has been spreading. All India Petrol Dealers Association, Karnataka Petrol Merchants Association and Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Petrol Vendors Association have jointly supported this campaign. They want to create awareness among the customers about the need to wear masks.

These petrol bunks employ about 4,000 workers. They have been provided with safety equipment including masks but they face risk from customers without masks who might be coming from various places. Therefore, customers who wear marks and follow social distance norm can buy fuel at these bunks.

President of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Petrol Vendors Association P Vaman Pai said that 'no mask, no fuel' campaign is aimed at ensuring the safety of staff manning the petrol bunks. He said that those without masks will be sent back.

On account of lockdown, about 70 per cent diesel and 40 per cent petrol sale have come down, the leaders of the association revealed.
