Mangaluru, Apr 18: As many as seven areas in Dakshina Kannada (DK) district, where coronavirus (Covid-19) positive cases were reported, have been declared as Covid-19 containment zones.

According to a press release from the deputy commissioner’s office, the areas are Sajipanadu and Thumbe in Bantwal, Janata colony in Karaya of Beltangady, Smart planet apartment in Thokkottu, Sampya Mane in Puttur, Uppinangady in Puttur and Ajjavara in Sullia.

An ‘Incident Commander’ having magisterial powers has been appointed in these containment zones. The commander would head a team of police and health officials to ensure there are no lockdown violations in the zones. In the case of the containment zones in the district mentioned above, the Incident Commanders will be the tahsildars of the respective taluks.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, earlier in the day during a meeting, stated that easing of restrictions will not be permitted in COVID-19 affected areas in the state which have been declared as containment zones. Residents within these zones would not be allowed to come out of their homes and essential items would be supplied to them at their doorsteps.

Except one from Uppinangady, all other positive-tested patients are cured and have been discharged from the hospital. They are under home quarantine currently.
