Udupi, Apr 14: Central government has poured in appreciation on Udupi district administration for their efforts in containing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the district, said G Jagadeesha, the deputy commissioner (DC) of Udupi on Tuesday, April 14.

The last case of COVID-19 in Udupi district was identified on March 29. Post this, no new case has been reported. The timely decisions taken by the administration has shown promising results and has considerably slowed down the spread of COVID-19 in the region. The district administration identified every person who came in contact with those who tested positive for the virus. As a precautionary measure, the contacts were then quarantined.

Concerning those who returned from abroad, home quarantine was ordered to them, to monitor them the conditions of these three squad groups visited them regularly.

One of the other reasons from the low number of cases in the region was the closing of the district borders. The DC also ordered for a ban on exit and entry of people and vehicles.

Another step followed was restricting the hour for purchasing essentials. People were allowed to purchase essential commodities, subject to a certain time limit. Meanwhile, the district administration has appreciated the support of the people of Udupi who are adhering to the rules. The DC requested the people to continue supporting the administration amid the crisis.

Meanwhile, the administration has also made provisions to distribute food kits to the migrant labourers and other underprivileged people impacted by the lockdown. The administration also distributed food kits to the auto-rickshaw drivers. The officials are devising measures to ensure proper supply of food items and other essential items to those in need.

Though we have MP's in Udupi and Mangalore, we have very good DC's. These DC's work very hard for our safety. God bless them. Our MP's have to learn a lot from these DC's.

They should be in quarantine first then do a test there... Submit reports and allowed to fly.. the same process repeated here... Might seem hard.. but that's the best way to avoid pressing the rewind button

Like that DC DK district has done more than a commendable job.
All carriers, most of them illeterates landed here only.Airport also there no.
Did not heed instructions thereafter. Some N.K. cases also ! All added to DK tally !
Pressure from SC to open our borders with our long time favourites ! Some coming by boat also ! What should our DC do ?
Inspite of all this and some stupid commentators from most infected areas our number has not risen above 12! Think nearly 8 have been cured so far !
No cases I think for the past week !
Even if our DC had put stones, mud, jelli, thorny plants at borders and entry point to Mangalore at Airports ...we would not have had any cases.
Kudos Sindhu Rupesh Madam ,the police force and all concerned.
    We are proud of you.
Last like in Film Sholay. ..We also have our Jay Veeru and,Thakuru. Gabbaru you all know.
All others are 'Curve Flatteners ' yeah ? Why no mention of DK ?

Bhandu, why r u not commending the DC of Kasaragod and CM of Kerala? They have done an extremely commendable job inspite of Corona cases, to flatten the number of further infections..

kudos to their administration also. Udupi and mlore DCs have put systems in place no doubt, but the kasaragod DC has risen to the challenge and shown his capacity and effectiveness INSPITE of number of Corona cases.

Good work from the DC of Udipi . Even if you take DK out of 12 patients from Kasargod were 4 and from Bhatkal 1. Actual patients who belonged to DK were only 7. Here only because of the closed border at Talapady patients inflow from Kasargod was less. Hats of to the DC and the police personal of Mangalore.

The DC in Udupi has done a commendable job. The only way out is to isolate and eliminate. He did the right thing by finding all people who came in contact with the sick person and quarantine them. A certain amount of discipline and cooperation from people go a long way in containment.
