Mangaluru: Allowing Kerala ambulances access to Karnataka - DC explains

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Apr 8: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, said that the Supreme Court has ordered to open Karnataka's border with Kerala at Talapady for emergency medical treatment with certain restrictions as per the yardsticks agreed upon by senior officials of both the states.

She said that in this connection, a district level COVID control meeting was held with the members of Indian Medical Association. Permission has been given to bring patients by government ambulances in emergency cases for treatment and road accidents. The patients wishing to come to Mangaluru should bring certificate from the local government medical officer stating that the patient is not suffering from coronavirus infection and that the specific treatment is not available at Kasargod. She further stated that the ambulances bringing patients would be sanitised as per the directions of the union health and family welfare ministry.

"Only a single helper, ambulance driver, and a paramedic are allowed to be brought into Karnataka along with the patient. A medical team from our district has been deployed at Talapady border. The ambulance and patient coming from Kasargod will be matched with the check list along with preliminary documents after which the same would be allowed into the district. Already the check list has been prepared and sent to Kasargod district administration," she stated.

Each case is tracked district wise and therefore Kerala Government has to make suitable arrangements or carry a letter for treatment in Mangalore else Mangalore could be infected in the long run. Makes sense. Social distancing and hygiene should be followed.

Current situation people should think of humanity rather being political. Virus is deadly and it is not selective to any person, caste, country, state or district border. Life is more important be it in any form. Thanks to the district administrator

Thanks district administration for putting a right process to handle this situation. I was always apprehensive about allowing patients ( specially with COVID positive cases ) crossing the border. But this process even though is not a fool proof one, atleast the intentions are correct.

We always need to exhibit humanitarian values above everything. Allowing genuine cases is the right approach. We have to show empathy for deserving cases.

District administration hopefully will keep monitoring this untill we come out of this COVID crisis and make sure that if this process is misused the border gets sealed again.

I feel, it could have been better to send Mangalore Doctors to Kasargod and lodged them in 5* star hotel with Car facilities, State emoluments etc to treat those patients there instead of bringing Keralites here.

Hey bro. Listen what would be u r situation of you were living inside rhe border of kerala and u r suffering from serious health issues . What you would prefer near hospitals or far hospitals . Understand it and then talk your bullshits . The people in the border prefer mangalore hospitals because its just 15km from talapdy rather than going 55km to kasargod . Think twice .
