Mangaluru, Mar 31: Has Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) here bungled up things in their hurry to make it convenient for the citizens, is a question that is lingering in the minders of many.

The city corporation has laid out chairs near the market for the people waiting to buy things. The people in the queue keep shifting from the current chair to the next as the queue moves. As the same chairs are used by multiple people, the infection might get passed on to many even if one in the crowd is infected.

Several people were seen pointing out at this blunder, and opting to stand in the line instead of seeking the comfort of sitting in the chairs.

People of the city are also seen forming queues in front of shops dealing in meat. People are seen hankering to buy chicken and mutton. The market at Mallikatte is a major source for meat sale. As the people did not get to buy meat since the last three days, they have been vying with each other to buy it today.

People are compelled to buy meat as they are not getting fish in the market as fishing activity has completely stopped.

Might be good idea to launch online / home delivery system like Kodagu (kodagu.letstart.in)? This would restrict number of people on road and provide employment for needy.

It’s so heartening to see such an administration .. this will not help control the virus rather spread. The opening of shops should be similar to all other states which has 8-9 hours opening everyday, so that people doesn’t rush to buy things, spend 8 hours in line to buy stuffs in 5 minutes

Were are the elected representatives anywhere to monitor the situation, we mostly see the elected representatives only before the election with their supporters, after the election we do not see the winners and loosers anywhere. We only see them for the next election only. Elected representatives should be there in the market place located in their respective wards during the time of such crisis. They can be with their supporters who come only during election campaign.

If the shops open after 3 days of total lock down then it's certain that people will gather in large numbers on that day. I feel shops of essential commodities should be kept open every day with strict warning of physical distancing. Nation wide lock down was very much needed but could have implemented with proper measures. Indian government had lot of time as virus had entered the country very late compared to European countries.

Exactly.... Most appreciated... But no... Who will implement? Before 9 am all shops have finished milk and some other essential stuff... Other shops had very long long queues with big lists in their hands. Line was not getting shorter for hours and hours. If other states can manage to keep their citizen indoors by supplying necessary items, why can't our Dakshina Kannada? JUST WHATS THE POINT IN STAYING INSIDE THE HOUSES FOR 15 DAYS AND NOW GATHER IN LARGE NUMBERS RESULTED IN OVER CROWDING? Only middle class people suffer to the highest. Neither rich nor poor... 😢

I keep emphasizing that the simplest solution is keep all groceries open all day. If it's working in a huge city like Bangalore without any chaos, why wouldn't it work here?

See kerala, their CM has taken steps to provide liquor. He made this available after one man committed suicide due to depression of alcohol not available... Here they are making our lives difficult by not providing essential items and simply declare lockdown!!!

Govt officials tried their best to control the situation, but we people failed to show patience and behaved like nerds.Social distancing was the last thing on their mind. Wearing masks without social distancing is a total fiasco. People should be disciplined first then only we can deal with CORONA ....else it will be only RONA in near future.

How do you expect people not to crowd when they have no access to groceries for the past 3 days and also tomorrow and day after? Shops must be kept open all day. A huge city like Bangalore is not having such problems because they have kept all grocery shops open.

You must be having necessary items more than required in your house. Everyone is aware of the facts. All have kept distance and wearing masks... Don't blame the public... All are not rich and can't afford to buy or may not have big store rooms to store. Problem is not for the rich or the poor. But for the middle class... Those who don't have vehicles cannot depend on autos as their service is suspended till April 14th.

One should think in an open market it's impossible to practise safe distance considering the situation & population! We Indians are accustomed to certain habits, which to break will be very hard as the saying goes "old habits for hard"!!

Social distancing is already gone for a toss by the large wave of panicky migrants huddled up at various borders w/o basic facilities, let alone masks & social distancing! They are ready to face CORONA but desperately want to reach their native places.

Utter failure places like Janatha bazar was a failure total mismanagement. Should keep the shops open at least once in two or three days. When you such large numbers it is dangerous for corona virus to spread.

I dont feel this is a wise decision. In Bangalore all the essentials are available everyday during the day till 10.00 p.m. Keeping shops open atleast half a day on each or 3 days in a week makes sense. This is just causing inconvinience to people

These are unprecedented times and my only thought is that why can we just try to have some basic food for a couple of weeks, I'm sure all of us have got all the rice, Dal's and basic veggies like potato, onions that have a relatively longer shelf lives and easier to get.
I've observed that a lot of the people are waiting in lines ultimately to buy exotic ingredients like pasta etc. Why can't we just stick to the basics and prevent ourselves and our families from getting infected.

Instead of crowding this way, corporation can go by ward number, house number wise... to buy essential items.
Give advanced information to houses through WhatsApp..
100 houses per hour.. go by voters list etc..
Allow one person from house to buy essentials...
Keep open grocery shops all the day.
    Don't allow overcrowding.
Shorten the queen and waiting time..
