Udupi, Mar 25: Even after Udupi took stringent precautions to contain the spread of COVID-19, the district’s first case was reported on Tuesday, hours after PM Narendra Modi announced nation-wide lockdown.

The DC officially announced the first case and asked people to stay at home and cooperate with the district and law enforcing authorities.

Majority of the people showed their support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call by staying at home. However, there were a few who were seen moving around on the road.

Police were seen warning people to not step on the road unnecessarily. While the police were strictly enforcing the lockdown, they were also compassionate. Sadashiv, sub-inspector, Udupi town station was seen distributing food to the needy people while on rounds in the city.

“During our rounds in the city, we saw many people who were in need of food. So with some help of generous people and under guidance of SI Sadashiv, we have taken up the cause of feeding the needy,” says a constable from Udupi town police station.
