Shaheen Bagh finally cleared by police amid coronavirus lockdown

New Delhi, Mar 24 (IANS): In view of the complete lockdown in the national capital to thwart the COVID-19 spread, Delhi Police cleared the protest site in Shaheen Bagh on Tuesday and detained some protesters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police R. P. Meena said, "Police requested them to vacate the place but they refused. So, police cleared the area and detained a few protesters."

The Delhi Police also said, "All protest sites have been cleared -- Jaffrabad, Jamia and Turkman Gate. Some persons detained in all these places as well."

Sources in Delhi Police said, "A team of senior police officers reached the site at 6.45 a.m. First, they tried to pacify the protesters. At that time around a dozen persons were present. Usually, very few women protesters remain there during the mornings. And because of the lockdown, their number already was very less."

The police arrived with trucks and JCB machines and dismantled all the structures and seized the tents.

The police sources say that "Delhi Police will register a case of violation of prohibitory orders against the organisers and the persons detained."

Police also said, "The Kalindi Kunj road connects Delhi-Noida-Faridabad and it was necessary that essential commodities should also reach the people. It was certainly, the violation of section 144 (prohibitory orders), therefore they cleared the site."

The protests at Shaheen Bagh had been going on since three months against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). It all started after the police action in Jamia Millia where police used force against the anti-CAA protesters in which many students were injured allegedly.

Shaheen Bagh had become a symbol of anti-CAA protest and was replicated in some other parts. However, amid the fear of spread of the COVID-19, protests in other places were called off.

Shaheen Bagh protesters had tweeted on the day of the Janata Curfew after a petrol bomb was hurled at the barricades, "We are committed to cooperating with the law of the land and request all our well wishers and sympathisers to abide by the same. We are all in this together. We will come back stronger. This is not over."

For your information and to make a fair comparison and to conclude who is educated and who are not; take a look at the Patel quota agitation (Patidar Anamat Andolan) in Gujarat, India that took place from 6 July 2015 – 14 January 2019; seeking Other Backward Class status for the Patidar community (The famous Patel Community many of whom are well settled in USA)

Losses: 14 people died in the violence. Several vehicles, more than 200 buses and public properties damaged across Gujarat
    Ahmedabad: ₹ 12 crore
    Rajkot: ₹ 1.47 crore
    Police department:₹ 200 crore.

At least 27 citizens and 203 police personnel had Non-fatal injuries

At least 650 arrests were made.

Now make a fair comparison and tell me what is your conclusion about who is educated or who are not?

    R. Bhandarkar,

Now, Take a look at the Gujjar agitation that took place in Rajasthan and other states; where protesters belonging to the Gurjar caste were demanding a Special status under India's reservation system.

    The agitation s took place between 23 May 2008 to 17 June 2008; and 17 December 2010 to 7 January 2011.

Result: 37 people dead, several hundred injured, destruction of state property.

I hope I dont have to remind it again.

    R. BHANDARKAR,

The other agitation and series of protests and vandalism to be included in the list is Backward Classes demand from the Jats, predominantly from Haryana. The reservation protests by Jats turned into violent mobs causing heavy damage to government and public property. The protests lasted through most of February 2016 and rioters caused damages estimated at about INR. 340 billion (34,000 Crore Rupees) (including INR 2 billion through affected rail routes). It was only after the Army was called in, that things began to settle down. The Jat agitation was among the worst in the country in the sense that the state almost shut shop for a prolonged period of time.

Still people call these people as educated and call those people as uneducated who fight for their rights given by the constitution of India.

The entire Indian diaspora, were acutely aware that these protests, had political overtones... they were well orchestrated, by disgruntled, frustrated netas, with support of evil forces, who had wanted to destabilize PM Modiji government !!!!! Finally, Coronavirus acted to whitewash, these anarchists dreams of creating a pandemic, in our nation, which was more potent and evil, then the virus itself !!!!!!

What do you think only you and Modiji has the right to make politics? Politicians and their chamchas are always making politics. But the protest was genuine and you cannot digest that. You people fought the Delhi election on the basis of opposing Shaheen Bagh protests. And everyone knows what was the result.
Forget about destabilizing the government; Do you think your so called great government and great netas have moral right to continue when they cannot contain the killings that lasted for 3-4 days in a small part of Delhi? If you dont have the that much of an ability, then why do you think you should continue?. What is your achievement? Spending thousands of crores of staues when the whole nation is in dearth of Medical facilities and equipments in this time of Coronavirus crisis? Why your favourite government reduced the Health budget when they can spend so much on staues?

Now this seems to have become a big issue for you. Clear your mind first. They were forced to leave or they left without giving time to clean.
Dont you remember the PRO-CAA protesters in our state. How filthy was that protest area? How many youths had participated in that. And now you expect these old ladies to clean before they are leaving out of emergency situations. The hate in your heart have made you people merciless.

Yes, its a big issue for all Indians. Who said no time to clean? weren't they informed well to leave the area and go home during lockdown? do they ever know what crisis we are going through even if one person of the protesters gets infected with deadly virus? and for all that they protested saying Indians consider them as migrants, do you think Indian government would have let them die there? Indian government on its toes to bring all indians back home and at this time they are not checking for any past history of ancestors. Just on the base of passport where written Indian national and government is airlifting them from their base, may it be Iran or Italy without asking caste, religion or education. You are the one who has to clear your mind first. Think in all this point, during such situation how the Indian government is doing the best they can. and we as responsible citizen need to support such thought and not to sit on protest even after given the notice. This clearly shows the mindset of the people what they are. so its they who has to clear their mind and understand the responsibility.

Nothing has made loose their credibility. Salaute to these ladies fro their dedication. Day by day voices are raising against the CAA/NRC from various institutions from in and around our nation. Even UN is also against CAA. BJp government should feel shame about that.
When it comes to the hidden agenda it is clear from the communal speches in delhi election campaign and later violence that went on for so many days even if it was within the capacity to stop it immediately at the begining.

This so called protest is nothing but the outburst of frustration of certain section of our "countrymen" whose numbers game is threatened by the CAA. Such "countrymen" are also worried that if CAA is followed by NRC that in turn will result in illegal infiltrators from Bangladesh and rohingyas may end up being deported or sent to detention camps.
