Updated

Mangaluru, Mar 22: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been imposed in Dakshina Kannada in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic that is rapidly making its presence felt in the state.

Mangaluru reported its first coronavirus case on Sunday March 22 after a youth from Bhatkal tested positive.

The district administration has now imposed Section 144 till midnight of March 31.

Also, the Janata Curfew on Sunday that was supposed to end at 9 pm will now continue till midnight.

Under the prohibitory orders, the district administration banned from venturing out of their homes except in case of emergency or extreme necessity.

People should not hold any programmes or ceremonies even inside their homes where many people are likely to gather.

All public programmes including religious ceremonies, cultural programmes and so on will be banned with a view to maintain social distancing.

All shops, commercial establishments, workshops and godowns with other inessential goods will be closed.

Factories should ensure that only 50 percent of their employees work at any given time, and on a rotation basis while maintaining appropriate distance from each other.

Employees of all IT companies should work from home.

Bus service, both government and private, will be suspended during this period. This will also include inter-state and inter-city buses.

Mass prayers and religious ceremonies will not be allowed in temples, mosques and churches.

Summer camps, seminars, exhibitions and other such programmes will also be prohibited.

Beaches and other tourist spots will be closed.

The DC has instructed all citizens to follow the guidelines strictly. Any appeal to relax the guidelines on personal grounds will not be entertained, the DC said.

Coronavirus: Nine districts in Karnataka including DK to shut down till Mar 31

As many as nine districts across Karnataka, including Dakshina Kannada, will be completely shutdown except for essential services until March 31.

The move comes in the wake of a spurt in coronavirus cases across the country, which have crossed well over 300. On Sunday March 22, two more deaths were reported, one each in Mumbai and Bihar.

Apart from Dakshina Kannada, lockdown has been ordered in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Kalaburagi, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkaballapur, Dharwad and Belagavi districts.

Essential services like pharmacies, ambulance, groceries and milk will not be affected.

For the next one week, bus services will also be suspended, including inter-service buses between six districts.

Companies have been told to ask their employees to work from home.

All state governments have been issued orders allowing only essential services in about 75 districts across the country. It was decided at a meeting here on Sunday morning with chief secretaries of all states by the cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba and the principal secretary to the Prime Minister P K Misra.

"The state governments may expand the list depending on their assessment of the situation. It was noted that several state governments have already issued orders in this regard."

The chief secretaries said that there is overwhelming and spontaneous response to the call for 'Janata curfew' given by the Prime Minister on Thursday.

As many as 13,049 people have lost their lives across the globe and the deadly virus has affected 3.7 lakh people.

The number of coronavirus-affected people in India reached 324 on Sunday with reports of six deaths. In view of the need to contain the spread of COVID 19, it was agreed that there is an urgent need to extend the restrictions on the movement of non-essential passenger transport including inter-state transport buses till March 31, 2020, a Cabinet note said.

Besides, some important decisions were taken in the meeting that includes suspension of all train services till March 31, including suburban rail services. However, goods trains are exempted.

Inter state passenger transport will also be suspended till March 31.

    Look at the irony.

UK wanted to separate itself from EU. Trump wanted to build wall. Modi wanted CAA. NRC ..all in the name of patriotism. Isolating people to people.

Almighty showed he can put his plans strongly and more effectively.

Today individuals around the world isolating themselves, even with no contact with own family because of CORONA.

Yet we are such fools to clap for leadership instead of hardworking health workers.

Passengers from the airport only needs to be put in quarantine. I think people escape the screen test from detecting fever by eating dolo 650 in the airport before boarding the flight. Can't trust a single passenger and then put others life at risk. Ban all travel or quarantine all passengers before letting them go

    Dear Sir,
The govt has taken a good initiative to fight against the COVID19. Its not only the responsibility of the Govt to fight against the disease but it also the responsibility of our people to join hands together, and I personally found that in-spite of imposing 144 section in Dakshin Kannada in some places like Surathkal still many people are gathering and making this scenario more critical. Hence I request all the people of our Mangalore to stay at home and dont come out unless and until its emergency.

Harishere, We don't need money for distribution to people directly, need of the time is new hospital or separate isolation hospital especially for corona virus affected people. Look at the China.... within 10 days, they constructed or we can say, prepared one hospital with 1,000 beds.... Can we do that in India??? That's the problem in India... Even if few State Govt initiate the noble measure.... our own people will start... like..... why in our area? why in my land? why they need 500 crores rupees, etc etc.

Probably we all get a chance to see the videos where many bhakts are clapping from their balcony. But none get a chance to see their Guru's clapping. Please mind well that he doesn't do what he says...he was just checking out of curiosity till date how many bhakts are left. He is always smarter than Bhakts. So please Just maintain social distancing and take care of you and your family. That's most important. Be safe and be healthy.
