Bantwal: 'No water woes this summer', reassures city mayor

Bantwal, Mar 10: Mangaluru City Corporation mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar, has exuded the confidence that there will be no dearth of water in the city limits during the summer months this year as there is sufficient inflow of water in Netravati river to maintain satisfactory water level in Thumbe dam. He also said that in his opinion, the corporators of the city together will be able to tide over water problems if at all they crop up in certain pockets of the city without any hassles. He was speaking at a programme after offering Bagina to River Netravati at Thumbe on Wednesday, March 9.

Opposition party leader Abdul Rauf, said that they are prepared to work hand in hand with the ruling party, taking cue from the initiative undertaken by the ruling party to prevent problems relating to water supply. “Take the opposition party also into confidence,” he requested the mayor.

Chief whip Premananda Shetty, said that it would be necessary to provide water for industries along with for drinking purposes from next year onward. “Water will have to be made to stand at a level of seven meters for this to happen. The storage, supply network and purification units are being monitored. Overall development is being taken up in the Rs 797 crore of second stage of ADB loan,” he said.

Deputy mayor Vedavathi, joint commissioner Dr Santhosh Kumar, Ganesh R, corporators Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Poornima, Kiran Kumar and Sharat Kumar were present.

Corporators M Shashidhar Hegde, Bhasker K, Navin R D’ Souza, Lancelot Pinto, Keshava Maroli, Sumitra Karia, Ashraf Bajal, Samshuddin, Zeenath, Revati Sham Sunder, Chandravati Vishwanath, Veenamangala, Shobha Poojary, Bhanumati P S, Jayalaxmi V Shetty, Ranjani Kotian, Gayatri A, Sumangala, Roopashree Poojary, Shobha Rajesh, Laxmi, Hema and Leelavathi were present.

Dam in-charge officer Rajesh Suvarna, welcomed and rendered the vote of thanks.
