US blacklists individuals, entities over Hezbollah links

Washington, Feb 27 (IANS): US Treasury has said that it has designated 15 Lebanon-based individuals and entities as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) due to their links with Lebanon's Martyrs Foundation, which Washington claimed as part of Hezbollah support network.

The Treasury said in a statement on Wednesday that it has blacklisted Atlas Holding for being owned or controlled by the Martyrs Foundation, as well as one senior Atlas official and ten Atlas-affiliated companies, Xinhua news agency reported.

The targeted also included two Martyrs Foundation leaders and one entity related to them, the statement added.

As a result of the designation, all property of the targeted individuals and entities that fall under US jurisdiction must be blocked and they are subject to secondary sanctions.

Hezbollah, a Lebanese Shiite political party, was designated by the US Department of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in 1997.
