Dubai, Feb 21: Under 48 hrs of receiving an emergency call, Dubai Police managed to recover Dh20 million worth of jewellery, which was stolen from a European investor's villa at Emirates Hills. The police were also successful in arresting the gang of burglars.

Maj-Gen expert Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansoori, assistant commander-in-chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, praised officers of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at the Dubai Police for identifying the suspects despite the lack of evidence in the crime scene.

"Just 48 hours after receiving the emergency call, the gang members were arrested and the jewellery was recovered. It was a great effort by our officers," Mansoori said. The investor reported to the police that his wife realised that their safe had been broken into and completely emptied of all their diamonds, gold, and expensive watches.

Colonel Adel Al Joker said, "A team of officers and investigators was formed to get to the bottom of the incident. However, the place was cleared of any evidence as the crime was committed by professional burglars."

The police then conducted a thorough investigation which stated that one of the suspects was a repeat offender of burglary. He was tracked down, and his accomplice was also located.

"The duo had been contacting potential buyers who turned out to be illegal dealers of stolen possessions. They also had a female accomplice who was in charge of smuggling the stolen items outside the country," Col Al Joker added.

"Dubai police officers raided the thieves' hideouts, foiling their plans to flee the country." Brigadier Al Jallaf said the all five gang members, four men and a woman, were Asian nationals and had entered the country on visit visas.

Al Jallaf believes that the victim's negligence has resulted in the crime. The Brigadier claimed that the victim failed to secure his residence against theft.

He urged the public to take additional security measures when keeping valuables at home.
