EU moves resolutions against India over CAA, Kashmir

By Aarti Tikoo Singh

New Delhi, Jan 27 (IANS): After Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's relentless global campaign against India over the Citizenship Amendment Act and reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir, the European Union (EU) parliament has decided to pressurize New Delhi.

Out of 751 members of the EU Parliament, 626 have moved six resolutions on both the issues. The diplomatic offensive by the EU against India comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Brussels for the India-EU summit in March.

Sources in the Ministry of External Affairs here said the government took note of the EU move immediately and will withstand the EU pressure by reminding its members that the CAA is "an internal matter" of India.

"Moreover, this legislation has been adopted by due process and through democratic means after a public debate in both Houses of Parliament," a source said.

The government, sources said, is going to argue that every society takes into consideration a context and criteria to formulate its own process for naturalisation. European countries have themselves followed the same approach, an official pointed out. "This is not discrimination," he added.

Sources said that New Delhi is hoping that the sponsors and supporters of the draft in EU will engage with it to get a full and accurate assessment of the facts before they proceed further. "As fellow democracies, the EU Parliament should not take actions that call into question the rights and authority of democratically elected legislatures in other regions of the world," a senior official said.

Interestingly, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is in the midst of completing Brexit from the EU, has been reaching out to India for strengthening trade and bilateral relationship ties. The EU-UK ties have soured since the Brexit vote.

If at all RSS was in the existence at that time no foreign countries including the Moguls dared to enter our doorsteps and there would have been patrician of the country.!

India's thundu Rajas were fighting at that time and even after the independence our political parties have not considered the value of unity and build India as a great country.

See how the bhakts are getting agitated and ranting a raving, when the whole world is condemning the CAA. The same bhakts keep dancing when they see even a sentence of praise for Modi. Sorry bhakts the days of hugs and back slapping are over. Reality has taken over now and the true face is seen.

The EU also condemned china for the way it treats its Uighur population, did china even budge ?? China is head strong and as a matter of fact it has intensified its efforts to break the zeal of those who have separatist ideology based on religion, what BJP did is a walk in the park . I support NRC and CAA those who can't cooperate should be thrown out along with illegal aliens. No foreign power can dictate terms to India .

Shall we send the 626 countries that have moved the resolutions to Pakistan? Does this government of ours realise the repercussions if the world turns against us? Is the welfare of the people residing here in India less important than those we are about to invite from the three countries mentioned by the government? By the way, let us not lose sight of the fact that our economy is in very poor shape. Do we need to heap more misery on the people of India?

European Union never wanted India to prosper.
There is nothing surprising here too..

Europeans too looted India for 300 plus years.... French, Dutch, Portuguese all looters...
If they have real concern on India, let them give back the wealth they looted from India...
They have no concern on India and they want India to further go down...

What is democracy?? Does it mean politicians who are in majority to pass laws against it's own citizens and suppress them?? You can't run a dictatorship rule in the guise of democracy by betraying own people... One can't say it's internal matter and subjugate people's voice. Why on earth we have International court and international governing body... It's coz when tyrant rule countries and suppress it's people then there is a world body which punish such tyrant rulers.

Lets hope the GOI will listen to the voice of wisdom both within and outside India. It is not an issue to stand on prestige or ego. "Discretion is better than valor" is to be truly adhered to in administration. Before people start getting tough it is better a consensus is arrived at with the people. The Government of India should take the initiative.

EU should stop unsolicited opining about India's internal matters. We didn't say anything when France banned niqabs and burkhas because it is it's internal matter though it obstructs rights of an individual to follow his/her faith!!

Great idea. There are an estimated 2.7 million Indians in Europe, Around 7 million in North America and around 0.6 million in Australia/Oceania. These numbers are only those of legal immigrants and nobody knows the number the thousands of illegals living in these countries. I think all these should rush back in support of CAA. That would be really great hahahahahahaha.
