Mangaluru, Dec 26: Mahila Congress national social media coordinator and activist Lavanya Ballal has appealed the chairman of the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission to initiate ‘suo motto’ action against the police brutality on December 19 in Mangaluru.

In a letter, she has requested the chairman to initiate action against the Mangaluru police commissioner and his personnel for opening fire at general public without justification and to their upper body in contravention of CrPC and the police rules and also affecting the routine life of the general public in Mangaluru city without justification. She has appealed to ensure justice to the victims.

“The police officials started gathering in large numbers and entered the place of protest and started lathi-charge without any warning with an intention to disperse the crowd. During this time, several women students were severely injured in the protest. In fact, large number of people who were waiting for bus in and around the bus stand were ruthlessly attacked and injured. They were targeted and identified based on their dress,” she wrote in her complaint.

She also highlights that the Mangaluru police have clearly violated the human rights guaranteed to the citizens of the country under constitution as well as the UN Charter.

The appeal has also been signed by ward 15 councillor Luqman, ward 8 councillor Moonish Ali Ahmed and advocate Rakshith Shivaram.

Incredible to visualize, Grand old Indian National Congress party, dancing in tango with communal elements, to influence one section of the electorate !!! The entry of Mamata didi, into Karnataka, notably Dakshin Kannada district, has further muddied the turbulent waters !!!!!
